What You'll Learn

Foundations Course Introduction to Handguns covers the Basic Fundamentals of a Handgun. This course is a comprehensive Introductory firearms course for anyone considering owning or carrying a firearm for self-defense. The course is a complete guide to understanding conflict avoidance and situational awareness; home security and home defense; handgun and shotgun shooting fundamentals.

-This course introduces to the students the basic understanding of handguns, their functions and operation, and fundamentals of shooting safely and effectively.

This course will also familiarize gun owners with:

  • The Virginia Code state law Statue 18.2-279 thru 18.2-311 Virginia Concealed Carry Law for concealed weapon carry.

Training in this course includes: Practical Application (PRAC-APP)

  • Aspects of safe gun handling (Universal Gun Rules)
  • Cycle of Operation (Semi Automatic Pistol)
  • Nomenclature/Components of a handgun
  • Disassemble/Reassemble a Handgun
  • Grip/Stance
  • Site Alignment/Site Picture
  • Trigger Control
  • Breathing
  • Magazine Loading
  • Chambering Rounds into a Firearm
  • Basic fundamentals of pistol shooting
  • Handgun Maintenance

Legal Use of Force

In this lesson, Michael Martin will cover important legal topics, including the laws governing the legal use of force inside and outside the home. Within this lesson, you’ll get a chance to test what you’ve learned, using several real world scenarios with you as the actor.
