ASP Baton and Handcuff Certification is the most dynamic impact weapon and restraint training available. ASP training incorporates easily remembered and devastatingly effective techniques that can be used by all personnel under actual field conditions, coupled with court defensible procedures that have reduced liability whilst improving safety. The ASP Tactical Baton and Handcuff training program is universal across all levels of Law Enforcement, Military, and Security. The program has revolutionized baton and handcuff training, and has been implemented by agencies throughout the world, with training being conducted in 77 countries. The competency-based training program is based upon a conceptual model for the use of force and teaches the ASP principles of control using the ASP Tactical Baton & ASP Tactical Handcuffs. It focuses on mechanical functions and maintenance procedures for ASP Tactical Baton & Handcuffs and skill with expandable impact weapons and the full range of ASP handcuffs. The programs are easy to understand and provide efficient defensive tactics for all personnel without long hours of training. The tactics are quickly learned, easily practiced and readily maintained long after the program is completed and training incorporates drills which simulate the stress of street encounters. As a realistic training program ASP instruction recognizes that nothing works 100% of the time, so all ASP training retains the officers ability to disengage or escalate, and since there are no complicated moves the ASP Tactical Baton and Handcuff Certification program avoids the training complexities which often plague other programs.
Class Length: 6 hours classroom & 4 hours hands-on training and drills (10 Hours Total)
ASP Tactical Handcuffing is a 6-hour hands-on training seminar designed to train participants in the operational use of the hinged and chain handcuffs, as well as the proprietary ASP flex-cuffs. The program is simple to learn and easy to understand. It provides effective mechanical restraint tactics for law enforcement and private security personnel without long hours of training. These tactics are quickly learned, easily practiced and readily maintained long after the program is completed.
This course acquaints Law Enforcement, Protection & Security Officers with the operational use of the ASP Tactical Baton. The handcuff techniques in this program are designed to meet three standards of training:
The techniques work on the street, not just in the classroom. The techniques are court defensible and are backed by the nation’s most experienced use-of-force consultants. The program is administratively feasible for use in a contemporary private security or law enforcement agency.
The program provides portation (carrying) and presentation (drawing) procedures as well as application techniques. The techniques were designed to work effectively for all users, male and female, large and small, physically fit as well as those in less-than-peak physical condition.
Certification acknowledges that the individual has met a competency-based standard of knowledge and performance. This is not a "show up and pass" type course. Full active participation, effort, and satisfactory demonstration of techniques are required.
WHY TAKE THIS COURSE: Improper handcuffing techniques can lead to significant long-term injury to the person whom the handcuffs are applied. Improper application of handcuffs can also lead to civil and criminal liability on the part of the officer.
This is a competency-based training program, mere participation does not guarantee certification. "ASP Certification is Earned NOT Given".

WHY TAKE THIS COURSE: Most criminal activity occurs at nighttime or periods of limited visibility. According to the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports, the majority of officer involved shootings occur between 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. These incidents typically occur under reduced lighting or in conditions where no light is present. Because our night vision is poor, we rely on artificial illumination during periods of little or no light. Criminals know that the cover of darkness is their best friend. Even during daylight hours, officers may easily find themselves in a no light situation inside a dark room, while clearing an area during a power outage, etc.
