This 8 hour class goes beyond basic firearm safety principles and shooting fundamentals to introduce you to the concepts you need for personal and home defense. Starting with understanding situational awareness, developing a personal and home protection plan, reviewing the legal use of force and what to expect in the aftermath of a violent encounter, you will have the information you need to begin your concealed carry journey. Successful completion of this course provides a certificate that can be used to submit your Virginia Concealed Carry Permit application. Cost of the class is $100.

Our mission is to provide our students with the knowledge to be competent and confident self-protectors. In addition to the knowledge shared in the classroom, we believe that you also need to have hands on experience with your gun. With beginners, we coach you on the fundamentals of shooting using SIRT pistols and the Laser Ammo Smokeless Range in the classroom. This is a low stress, low noise way to help you gain confidence.

All shooters are encouraged to sign up for a separate live fire session at a local outdoor range. This additional session will be scheduled at a later date and is at no charge to you. Every student will have an opportunity to shoot using their firearm or we can provide a .22 caliber pistol for you to use. We believe that everyone will be able to demonstrate competency and confidence with their firearm by the end of our class.

The NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) class develops students with the knowledge, skills and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations. This course is 9 hours long and is classroom only. RSO candidates will learn the roles and responsibilities of a RSO; Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); range inspection; range rules; range briefings; emergency procedures; firearm stoppages and malfunctions, as well as conducting Range Safety briefings which include procedures to follow in case of an emergency.

Deposit of $50 is requested with confirmation of your registration with the remaining balance of $75 requested one week prior to class. Please contact me for special pricing if you are a member of a non-profit and are planning to use your RSO certification to support your group.

Now that you have your concealed carry permit, you're ready to carry your firearm every day, right? Have you purchased a holster that fits your gun and figured out where the holster fits on your body? Have you thought about where to carry your spare magazine? Have you practiced drawing from your holster? Even if you answered yes to all of these questions, you may benefit from working with an instructor to fine tune your skills. After all, your life may depend on it!

Beginners will learn about options for concealed carry, different holsters that may work best for you, and practice basic holster draw techniques with dry practice using the Laser Ammo Smokeless Ranges and laser pistols.

This class includes basic defensive shooting techniques based on the Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals curriculum starting with how to safely and consistently draw from the holster, shoot/no-shoot decisions and shooting accurately.

Private range sessions are only available to students that have previously taken a class with First Step Safety and Defense Training, LLC. During the range session you will be able to practice what you learned in class.

If you have completed a Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals Class, we will review the shooting fundamentals that were covered in the class.

If you have taken the "What's Next" class, you are able to practice your holster draw from your on-body holster.

If you have the FlexCCarry (Off-Body) Carry Class, you are able to practice your draw from your FlexCCarry Daily Go Bag.

All registrations will be approved within two days and additional instructions will be provided prior to your private range session.

You have your concealed carry permit, found the perfect holster and practiced your holster draw until you feel confident. Congratulations! You're now ready for Step 2 - Defensive Shooting Concepts!

What happens when you press the trigger and nothing happens? You could be out of bullets or have a stoppage. Don't worry we'll learn how to fix both problems - changing magazines to re-load your gun and fixing different levels of stoppages. Before we get started, we'll also do a quick check to review where your holster and spare magazine are staged, and fine tune your holster draw if needed. We can't forget about accuracy either, so we'll practice all of these steps using SIRT pistols with the Smokeless Laser Ammo Range and different dry practice tools to simulate fixing stoppages with your unloaded and cleared firearm.

You've been carrying concealed and practice regularly at the range. What else do you need to know? A lot! Step 3 - Movement and Shooting from Cover/Concealment takes you to a whole new level of confidence.

The focus of this class is building movement and decision making into your cognitive skills so that it becomes automatic. Once you recognize that you can't de-escalate or get away from a situation, you have to prepare for the next step - engaging the threat. You will learn now to "move off the X" while performing tasks that you've already learned - such as drawing from the holster, re-loading your gun with your spare magazine, and assessing for additional threats.

Once you master movement, we'll add in decision making drills to help you make critical shoot/no-shoot decisions under stress. Why is this important? If the threat changes their mind and runs away, they are no longer a threat, and we should be competent in our decision making to know when to shoot as well as when not to shoot.

We will review and fine tune the concepts from our step 1 class (holster placement on the body and holster draw efficiency) and step 2 class (re-loading and fixing stoppages) before adding in the step 3 concepts. In other words, the step 3 class brings it all together. We can't forget about accuracy either, so we'll practice all of these steps using SIRT pistols with the Smokeless Laser Ammo Range.

We are hosting a Utah non-resident permit class to be led by Gloria Krauklis. Gloria will provide the required course material which is required by the State of Utah for non-residents to apply for a permit. She will provide you with the application which you must fill out during the class then she will stamp with her Utah Instructor Stamp upon completion of the course. She also takes your passport photo and will make copies of your VA Driver’s license and Concealed Carry permit for inclusion with the application.

You must already be in possession of a valid Virginia Concealed Carry Permit.

Pepper Spray! Let's learn more about pepper spray! At the end of the class, you will be able to answer the following questions

• What is pepper spray?
• What does pepper spray do?
• Why is pepper spray useful?
• Do I need pepper spray if I already carry a gun?
• How do you use pepper spray?
• What do you do after you use pepper spray?

Students will not only learn about different pepper spray options, but you will also have an opportunity to practice how to use pepper spray!

Every student will take home a live and practice canister of pepper spray!
