My Biography
Cory Hunt is the owner and lead instructor of HuntTactical LLC, a North Carolina-based firearms training, security consulting, and emergency preparedness company serving individuals, organizations, and communities throughout Eastern North Carolina. He brings approximately 20 years of professional experience in corrections, public safety, firearms instruction, tactical operations, institutional security, emergency management, regulatory compliance, less-lethal systems, and organizational leadership to his training programs.
Cory began his public-safety career in 2006 and has served in progressively responsible positions including Officer, Sergeant, Assistant Unit Manager, Lieutenant, Captain/Officer-in-Charge, and Facility Compliance Specialist with the North Carolina state of North Carolina. His career has provided extensive practical experience supervising personnel, managing security operations, responding to emergencies, reviewing uses of force, conducting operational inspections, enforcing policy, managing risk, coordinating emergency preparedness, and maintaining institutional accountability.
As a former Captain and Officer-in-Charge, Cory was responsible for overall security operations, personnel supervision, emergency response, staff deployment, incident management, operational decision-making, and maintaining the safety and security of officers. His leadership background allows him to bring real-world experience in crisis response, decision-making under pressure, accountability, and security management into the classroom.
In his role as a Facility Compliance Specialist, Cory's responsibilities have included American Correctional Association accreditation, facility safety, PREA compliance, emergency preparedness, restrictive-housing operations, policy and procedure review, operational inspections, tool and key control, chemical control, hazardous-materials coordination, documentation, risk management, and regulatory compliance. This experience has reinforced his belief that effective safety is built through preparation, sound procedures, accountability, and consistent training.
Training has been a major component of Cory's professional career. He has instructed both public-safety professionals and civilian students in firearms, tactical operations, less-lethal systems, emergency response, first aid, body-worn camera operations, safety, and other security-related disciplines.

His courses emphasize that a firearm represents only one possible component of a comprehensive personal-safety strategy. Situational awareness, avoidance, communication, sound judgment, legal knowledge, and knowing when not to use force are equally important.
Emergency Management & Specialized Training
Cory has also completed extensive emergency-management and public-safety training, including:
FEMA ICS-100 FEMA ICS-101 FEMA ICS-102 FEMA ICS-103 FEMA ICS-120 FEMA ICS-200 FEMA ICS-700 Crowd Manager Training IED Awareness and Safety High-Risk Explosive Sweep Training Non-Confrontational Investigative Interviewing Specialized tactical-firearms training Emergency-response and incident-management training Tactical and use-of-force training
This combination of firearms, less-lethal, tactical, emergency-management, and institutional-security experience enables Cory to approach concealed-carry training from a perspective that extends beyond simply putting rounds on a target.
Professional Memberships & Affiliations
Cory believes professional development requires continued education and involvement with organizations that support the security, tactical, firearms, and public-safety professions. His professional memberships and affiliations include:
USCCA ASIS International InfraGard National Members Alliance National Tactical Officers Association — NTOA North Carolina Tactical Officers Association — NCTOA National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice American Correctional Association National African American Gun Association — Chapter Leadership National Rifle Association Southern States Police Benevolent Association OSAC
Cory also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, providing a strong foundation in communication, writing, instruction, documentation, and the ability to present complicated legal, tactical, and safety concepts in a way students can understand and apply.
Training Philosophy
As a USCCA instructor, Cory's goal is not simply to teach students how to operate a firearm. His objective is to develop safe, knowledgeable, confident, disciplined, and responsible armed citizens.
HuntTactical concealed-carry training emphasizes:
Safe firearm handling and storage Responsible concealed carry Marksmanship fundamentals Situational awareness Threat recognition and avoidance Personal-protection planning Legal and ethical responsibilities Decision-making under stress De-escalation and conflict avoidance Understanding when deadly force may—and may not—be appropriate Continued training beyond the concealed-carry course
Cory believes that owning a firearm does not automatically make someone prepared. A concealed-carry permit, firearm, or holster is only part of the equation. True preparedness requires education, repetition, judgment, discipline, realistic practice, and continued training.
New shooters are encouraged to ask questions and develop their skills without intimidation, while experienced shooters are challenged to continue improving their knowledge, decision-making, and proficiency.
Through HuntTactical LLC, Cory combines nearly two decades of public-safety experience with extensive instructor qualifications to provide students with practical, professional, safety-focused firearms instruction.
His training philosophy can be summarized simply:
Awareness gives you time. Training gives you options. Preparation gives you an advantage.
HuntTactical LLC
