What You'll Learn
Permit Holder Upgrade Series
Earning your concealed carry permit is not the finish line—it's the beginning of your journey as a responsibly armed citizen. The Permit Holder Upgrade Series is designed for individuals who already possess a concealed handgun permit and want to continue developing the knowledge, judgment, confidence, and practical skills necessary to carry responsibly in everyday life.
This continuing education series goes beyond the minimum requirements of permit classes by focusing on real-world decision-making, legal considerations, situational awareness, conflict avoidance, defensive mindset, and practical firearms handling. Students will build upon their existing foundation through structured instruction, guided discussion, dry practice, and live-fire exercises (where applicable).
Topics may include:
- Defensive mindset and responsible concealed carry
- Situational awareness and threat recognition
- Judgment and decision-making under stress
- Conflict avoidance and verbal de-escalation
- Virginia laws and legal updates affecting concealed carriers
- Safe firearm handling and concealed carry best practices
- Drawing from concealment and presentation fundamentals
- Defensive accuracy and practical marksmanship
- Reloading and malfunction management
- Movement, use of cover, and defensive positioning
- Home and vehicle considerations
- The legal, emotional, financial, and psychological aftermath of a defensive firearm encounter
- Equipment selection, maintenance, and everyday carry considerations
Courses in the Permit Holder Upgrade Series are offered as individual modules, allowing students to focus on specific areas of interest while progressively building their competence over time. Whether you've carried for six months or twenty years, there is always room to sharpen your skills, expand your knowledge, and reinforce safe habits.
At Firearms Safety First, we believe responsible concealed carry is more than carrying a firearm—it's a commitment to sound judgment, continual learning, and making decisions that protect yourself, your loved ones, and your community. The Permit Holder Upgrade Series reflects that commitment by helping permit holders remain prepared, informed, and confident throughout their journey as responsible armed citizens.

What We'll Teach
Marksmanship Simplified Lesson 1
Marksmanship Simplified Lesson 1 introduces the new shooter to the fundamentals of marksmanship. New shooters will build familiarity and confidence, as all skills are taught in isolation to allow for maximum attention to be applied to the mechanics of shooting, rather than the context.
