This is a two-part course required by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) in order to apply for a Texas License To Carry (LTC) Handgun Permit.

PART 1 - Classroom Instruction

In PART 1 of this course you will learn about the main topics required by Texas DPS pertaining to the carrying of handguns in the state of Texas. The overall objective of this course is to educate students on the responsibilities and laws applicable to handgun license holders.

After the classroom portion of the course (Part One) you will complete a written examination (passing score 70% or better).

Upon successful completion of PART 1 you will be allowed to proceed to PART 2 - Firearms Proficiency Demonstration.

PART 2 - Firearms Proficiency Demonstration

During PART 2 of this course you will demonstrate you proficiency with firearms. The Texas License To Carry (LTC) course is not a beginner's "learn to shoot" class; it is expected that you can already handle a handgun safely and proficiently. If you have no experience, it is STRONGLY advised to take a basic pistol or firearms safety course first, or a preparatory class, to ensure you can pass the proficiency test.

Firearms Proficiency Demonstration consists of firing a total of 50 rounds at a B27 target

• 20 rounds at 3 yards (9 feet)
• 20 rounds at 7 yards (21 feet)
• 10 rounds at 15 yards (45 feet)

Students must obtain a minimum score of 175 out of 250 possible points

Upon successful completion of the classroom portion (Part 1) of this course and the Firearms Proficiency Demonstration (Part 2), you will be issued a course certificate (LTC-104) required by the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) which you will submit to Texas DPS when applying for your Texas LTC.

• Laws that Relate to Weapons • Laws that Relate to the Use of Force and the Use of Deadly Force. • Handgun Use and Safety, including use of restraint holsters and methods to ensure the secure carrying of openly carried handguns • Non‐Violent Dispute Resolution • Proper Storage Practices for Handguns with an Emphasis on Storage Practices that Eliminate the Possibility of Accidental Injury to a Child • Gear and Gadgets - Holsters, Tactical Flashlights, Laser Aiming Devices, Gun Safes and Storages.

Other topics covered: Personal Safety, Handgun Safety, Handgun Fundamentals, Handgun Operation, Handgun Selection, Physiological Reactions to Violent Encounters.

The Course Includes:

• 6 hours of classroom work • A written examination (passing score 70% or better) • Handgun proficiency demonstration using standard B27 Qualification target. Range qualification consists of firing 20 rounds at 3 yards, 20 rounds at 7 yards, & 10 rounds at 15 yards (50 rounds total). Student must obtain a minimum score of 175 out of 250 possible points. • Signed Texas DPS LTC104 course completion form.

This is a LADIES ONLY course.

This is the first of three distinct courses. The BASIC course is designed for those who are brand new to firearms. Begin your journey by discovering your “Why” when it comes to personal defense and firearms training. The class is small and just for women so we can focus on your safety, provide personal attention, and help you learn to shoot in a safe, fun environment.

The Basic course is for women who want to learn the proper way to safely and responsibly use handguns. If you are new to shooting and interested in an in-depth introductory course, then this is the course for you. You will gain both knowledge and confidence during this Basic course.

In this course, you will lay the foundation for handgun basics through topics like:

• “The Four Universal Safety Rules,” • understanding firearms, • clearing semi-automatic handguns, • stance and grip, • trigger control, • and a multitude of other skills that are necessary for the proper and safe operation of a handgun.

During this course you will learn firearm basics (revolver/pistol), what to look for when purchasing a firearm, shooting fundamentals, gear and gadgets information, and basic/advanced skills.

This course includes live fire on the gun range.

Required - Students will need to provide: • Dependable pistol or revolver • Two (2) Spare Magazines • Ear and Ear protection • Minimum of 250 rounds of ammunition

What You'll Learn

The Countering the Mass Shooter Threat course is designed to educate individuals about the threat of mass shootings and how to prepare for and respond to such incidents. The course covers topics such as:

o What we’ve learned about mass shootings o Statistics and facts regarding mass shooter incidents o Recognize warning signs of a potential threat o Understanding the mindset and motivations of mass shooters. o Identifying potential warning signs and taking preventative measures to minimize the risk of a mass shooting incident. o How to respond if you find yourself in a mass shooter incident o Develop an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) o How to develop an emergency operations plan (EOP) with an emphasis on schools, places of worship, and businesses o Understanding the basics of active shooter response and survival, including the “Run, Hide, Fight” method.
o Strategies for responding to a mass shooter situation, including evacuating the area, o locking down a building, and defending oneself. o Working with law enforcement and first responders to end a mass shooter incident. o Managing the psychological impact of a mass shooting incident and supporting those affected by such an event. o Learn and discuss solutions to prevent an attack in your community

The course will also provide practical tips for creating and implementing an emergency action plan for both individuals and organizations.

The goal of the Countering the Mass Shooter Threat course is to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to prepare for and respond to a mass shooting incident. By taking this course, individuals can become more informed and confident in their ability to handle such a situation, increasing their chances of survival.

This Course teaches the basic marksmanship fundamentals of firearm safety, sight alignment, trigger control, grip, and breath control using a simulated pistol with a resetting trigger and laser to indicate where the shots hit. The student will be using a Shot Indicating Resetting Trigger (SIRT) Training Pistol within the classroom. No firearms and ammunition are required. At the completion of the course, a participation certificate is awarded. Students may attend this course as a basis to decide whether or not they would like to follow-up by taking the full length Basic Pistol Course with live fire, or simply learn to improve their marksmanship skills.

The Basics of Pistol Shooting is intended for ALL individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation. This is an instructor-led course where you will receive direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor from beginning to end. This course takes place in a traditional classroom and range environment. You will learn the Basics of Pistols, terminology, safe firearm handling, and shooting fundamentals.

Course topics include:

• gun safety rules
• proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols
• ammunition knowledge and selection
• pistol selection and storage
• shooting fundamentals
• pistol inspection and maintenance
• marksmanship
• shooting range safety

Students will complete live fire training using nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor.

Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate.

NRA Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training (FIRST) — is the NRA’s response to the American public’s need for a firearm orientation program for new purchasers.

NRA FIRST Steps Pistol is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific pistol action type for classes of six or fewer students. This course is at least three hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific pistol action type. Students will learn:

• NRA’s rules for safe gun handling;
• the particular pistol model parts and operation;
• ammunition;
• shooting fundamentals;
• cleaning the pistol;

Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate.

This class is for those looking to get their LEOSA Shooting Qualification. The class is restricted to Retired Law Enforcement Officers only.

The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requires a retired officer to pass a shooting qualification with a minimum of 50 rounds at ranges from point blank to 15 yards, including at least 20 rounds at or beyond 7 yards and at least one timed reload. The shooter must achieve a minimum passing score of 70%, or 175 out of 250 possible points for a 50-round course, on a B-27 or similar silhouette target using combat scoring.

The Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act (LEOSA) is a federal law that allows Qualified Retired Law Enforcement officers (926C) to carry a concealed firearm in any jurisdiction in the United States or United States Territories, regardless of state or local laws, with certain exceptions.

Retired officers are required to complete an annual firearms proficiency course of fire (shooting test) that meets or exceeds the minimum standards, per Commission Rule §218.9 (c)(1).

Per Commission Rule §218.9 (c)(1) a compliant proficiency test is administered by a certified Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) instructor and exceeds the TCOLE standards required for annual certification to remain qualified under LEOSA.

This mini-class prepares students for not only how they might react if they're confronted by a violent crime but also how they might avoid it in the first place. It will uncover a process that encompasses awareness, avoidance and preparation, leaving them less likely to have to employ force in self-defense in the first place.

What We'll Teach:

Developing a personal & home protection plan is a key component of not only preparing for how we should (or might) react if confronted by a violent crime, but also how we might avoid violent crime in the first place. Within this lesson, Michael Martin explains that developing a protection plan is about much more than becoming proficient with a firearm or writing up a home invasion plan.

This is a private course. This course teaches beginner rifle knowledge, safe handling habits, gun storage, and a medical brief. Students learn universal safety rules, rifle parts, ammunition types, gun storage & laws, and first aid.
