Course Requirements:

Complete the Classroom Training Online . Online providers are convenient and let you work at your own pace on any device (computer, phone, tablet). Upon passing the written exam, you'll receive a certificate (often LTC-101 or LTC-104 form) needed for the next steps. Complete the Shooting Proficiency To demonstrate handgun proficiency (e.g., shooting at targets from certain distances). Bring your own handgun and ammo

Pass a handgun proficiency test at a certified shooting range with a score of 175

The LTC Shooting Qualification Test (range proficiency demonstration) offered by Texas Firearms Institute is strictly a qualification / testing session required by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) for License to Carry applicants.

This session is not a handgun training class, instructional course, or beginner lesson. Instructors will provide only minimal safety oversight and basic range commands. .

Requirements and Recommendations Prior experience is strongly recommended.

Applicants should already possess basic handgun handling and shooting skills before attempting the LTC shooting qualification.

This includes safe gun handling, loading/unloading, clearing malfunctions, and the ability to shoot accurately enough to meet the minimum passing score.

Participants are expected to arrive prepared to demonstrate proficiency .

If you have little or no handgun experience, we highly recommend completing a separate beginner or basic handgun training course through Texas Firearms Institute before scheduling your LTC shooting qualification.

This will greatly increase your chances of passing on the first attempt and ensure a safe, smooth experience.

"My trainer, Alexandre, was one of the most patient people I’ve ever met. He went over the content and paused to ask if I had questions. While I already had basic knowledge of my gun, it was very very basic knowledge. Alexandre encouraged me to slow my breathing, focus, and ultimately succeed in the class. I would recommend him for ladies, like myself, who want to learn how to defend themselves should a situation arise that requires it. I feel more confident in general and plan to take more courses to expand my knowledge on gun safety. "
