This course prepares students with the knowledge and skills to successfully apply for the Minnesota, Florida, and Arizona Concealed Carry Permits. Students will demonstrate a practical understanding of: the fundamentals of pistol use and firearms safety; the legal aspects and ramifications of pistol possession, carry, and use; introduction into situational awareness and defensive tactics; an overview of applicable state laws; and demonstrate safe pistol usage while achieving defensive accuracy during a live fire shooting qualification.

This is a USCCA certified Defensive Pistol course. This course is broken down into two segments consisting of an eLearning presentation and a day at the shooting range. The eLearning provides introduction and explanation into the techniques that will assist students in advancing their defensive shooting skills. While the shooting portion allows students to effectively apply these techniques under the direction of a USCCA certified instructor. This training will help students transition from just shooting paper targets, to better understanding the basics of fighting with their chosen handgun. The context of this training is focused on an armed citizen’s initial response to a violent ambush. The defense techniques utilized within this program are based on the body’s naturally occurring physiological/psychological responses experienced when exposed to a violent threat. Finally, this course is taught to the overall skill level and capabilities of the students attending.

This is a Shade’s Landing Inc./Tactical Firepower certified defensive pistol course. This program was designed to both develop proper handgun fundamentals in new shooters while addressing and eliminating bad habits in more experienced shooters.

The TFDHS program was initially developed in 2007 by Jason Shade (i.e., Owner/Principal Instructor of Shade’s Landing Inc./Tactical Firepower). Shortly after this development, the TFDHS program was released and sold nationally through several major retailers (including, but not limited to Amazon, Cabela’s, and Bass Pro Shops) as a DVD training series.

The TFDHS program’s emphasis is skill development. This skill development follows a logical training sequence where newly introduced skills build upon, and further expand the student’s application of previously learned skills. With this progression style, students are more successful in developing the knowledge and ability to recognize when, and how to successfully apply these skills to a variety of defensive shooting scenarios.
