What You'll Learn
This is a 1 hour course designed to educate the student on the safe handling and use of a handgun. Topics covered will be: FL Gun Laws, basic firearms safety, firearm manipulation, general maintenance and fundamentals of marksmanship. This course requires that the student demonstrate the ability to utilize safe gun handling techniques.
Equipment Needed: You may use your own weapon and ammo or rent ours at a nominal cost. Firearms used: Smith Wesson 9mm, Glock 17 Gen 5, Glock 19 Gen 5, Glock 44, Sig Sauer P238. Bring your electronic Hearing and eye protection or we will supply them. We will supply the targets which are included. At the successful completion of this course the student will be awarded a USCCA Certificate of Completion.
Cancellation Policy: Students are required to cancel at least 48 hours in advance of a class date in order to receive a full refund. Classes cancelled less than 48 hours before the class will not be refunded.
What We'll Teach
Self-Defense Firearms Basics
This lesson will introduce you to a wealth of information on different types of self-defense firearms including handguns, home defense shotguns, and the AR-15 platform, where Michael Martin provides easy to understand explanations of the common terms used so frequently. The goal of this lesson is to de-mystify what can sometimes feel like a topic reserved for experts.

This basic handgun course introduces the shooter to the Fundamentals of Firearm Safety, and how to properly handle a firearm. You will learn the functions of a handgun and it’s inner workings. The class includes learning the 5 Universal Rules of Firearm Safety, Proper Stance and Grip, Sight Alignment, Sight Picture and Trigger Control. Basics and fundamentals will be introduced, reviewed, and then built upon, while also exploring situational awareness, common types of handguns, ammunition types, malfunctions, firearms handling skills, and the use of deadly force. Whether you’ve never touched a firearm, you’re looking for the next steps in your training, or you’ve chosen to learn about the skills, tools, and mindset needed to use firearms for self-defense, you will learn from techniques from a USCCA Training Counselor and Certified Weapons Instructor in the world of firearms.
