What You'll Learn
Beginner's Course
This introductory course is designed specifically for women who are new to handgun shooting and/or ownership. This instructional-style course provides a safe, supportive, and confidence-building experience focused on understanding the fundamentals of handgun safety and developing essential skills—before ever firing a shot.
Never held a gun before? Are you interested, but guns scare you? Don’t worry, you’re not alone, and you’re exactly who this course is for.
There’s a lot to learn before you ever fire a shot. This personal training is designed to ease nerves and build confidence through clear, fun, and easy-to-learn fundamentals before shooting ever occurs.
Designed for women new to firearms, this course will teach the 7 fundamentals of handgun safety: stance, grip, sight alignment, sight picture, breath control, trigger control, and follow-through. Mastering these fundamentals is essential for improving accuracy and consistency in shooting.
This course is tailored to your comfort level. Throughout the lesson, you’ll also learn foundational safety principles, familiarize yourself with handguns, and develop beginner's practical skills to help you feel at ease, comfortable, and in control. You'll learn at a relaxed and slow pace and in a private, safe, welcoming environment-all taught before we move on to the range.
There's no rush in learning about handguns, which is why I teach at a friendly, slow pace that is comfortable for everyone.
The first two hours of this class are taught in a private, comfortable, instructional setting. The last hour is spent at the range, where you will practice your handgun fundamentals.
Cancellation Policy: Please read my policy thoroughly. I do not give refunds for missed or canceled classes. I will be happy to give you full credit for a future class if you notify me 48 hours before the start of class. The credit is non-transferable and must be used within 60 days. Cancelling less than 48 hours in advance of a class will forfeit all credit or reimbursement. By registering for this class, you agree to our cancellation policy.
What We'll Teach
Self-Defense Firearms Basics
This lesson will introduce you to a wealth of information on different types of self-defense firearms including handguns, home defense shotguns, and the AR-15 platform, where Michael Martin provides easy to understand explanations of the common terms used so frequently. The goal of this lesson is to de-mystify what can sometimes feel like a topic reserved for experts.
Additional Notes from Your Instructor
RANGE DETAILS: At the end of the second hour of class, we will drive together and meet at Iron Sights Indoor Shooting Range in Oceanside. For those who are new to Iron Sights, you will be expected to complete a digital registration before you begin. You can complete this step online or at the range. Please consider the time you will need to complete this if you choose to do it at the range. You may also consider going to Iron Sights to complete this step before you attend this course. Bring $20 cash for range fees and 50-100 rounds of ammunition. Please do not be late. If you need to borrow a pistol, one can be provided, or you can rent one at the range. If you don't have eye and ear protection, you can use them for free at the range. If you will need to purchase ammunition at the range, email me to make arrangements in advance.
