This entry level Reality Based Training course will provide students with an environment to learn how to safely operate and utilize Ultimate Training Munitions (UTM) converted firearms for training. Realistic De-Escalation thoroughly dissects the complex concept of “de-escalation” and the many elements in determining its feasibility or effectiveness in a variety of encounter types. This deeper knowledge of de-escalation is valuable to both security officers and supervisors called in to review force events after the fact. All these parties will need to determine to what extent using de-escalation techniques is feasible in specific high-pressure and rapidly unfolding encounters.
Participants in the course will learn concepts and methods that support de-escalation efforts when personal connections can be made between officers and subjects. These attendees will be given knowledge regarding ways to help people in a state of mental health crisis, or whose perception of reality is altered. Officers will be able to better manage human beings with better skills around establishing contact, building rapport and gaining influence to achieve police objectives.
Tactical Decision Making merely refers to decisions made for short-time span goals. This course focuses on those decisions made under time constraints, where discretionary time is not available. The focus is on the high-risk/criticality/liability, low-frequency events that are typified by the use of force.
Participants will review use-of-force concepts, observe videos of previous incidents, learn to avoid the traps of poor decision making, apply the priorities of life, and make appropriate decisions based on the situation presented.
This course includes the use of a Firearms Training Simulator (FATS) and live action roleplaying in a variety of incidents.

Pistol optics: Red dots can be a significant advantage for new shooters as well as a major enhancement for the experienced marksman. However, they have their own limitations and learning curve, especially if the shooter wants to exceed plinking and look at serious defensive situations.
This class will examine the hardware, but will spend most of its time looking at the software: the methods of use. We will establish zero, look at rapid dot acquisition, move from an iron “front sight” focus into a more practical threat focus, study manipulations and more.
Requirements: Paracical Pistol/AZCSN Armed Guard, or the approval of the instructor. AZCSN Intermediate Pistol strongly recommended. Duty pistol with red dot (limited rentals available), 3 magazines minimum, 300 rounds of training ammunition PLUS 25 ROUNDS CARRY AMMUNITION.
