What You'll Learn
This is a hybrid course with 8 hours of coursework to be completed before the field training day. Learn patient assessment, the head-to-toe physical exam and how to improvise splints, tourniquets, compression bandages, cervical collars and more, using whatever's available in your environment. This is a certification class. The WFA certification is good for two years.
Cancellation Policy: This is a non-refundable course. Students who need to cancel may reschedule for a future course if booked within 90 days of the original course. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the original course will not be rebooked.
What We'll Teach
Building Your Own First Aid Kit
While there are a number of diagnostic tools, medications, and devices that EMS providers have access to that are simply not available to non-professionals, the vast majority of the items that you’d find in the back of a typical ambulance or medic bag (and the tools that were discussed in Lessons One, Two and Three) are things that nonprofessionals can find online with just a few clicks (and I’ll share my favorite websites with you), or, even purchase at your local drugstore. To help you to prioritize your own purchases, I’m going to suggest what type of gear might be included in emergency first aid kits of three different sizes to fit three different needs, or, three different “missions.” I’ll wrap up this chapter with a few suggestions on where you can go from here.
