What You'll Learn
Day 1 will be all academics delivered live on Zoom. Day 2 will be in the field at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston, VA. The Wilderness First Aid course focuses on saving lives when one is far from higher medical care. It teaches assessment, diagnosis, treatment, stabilization, transportation, and evacuation. Each student will earn an ASHI (American Safety and Health Institute) Wilderness First Aid certification that is good for 2 years.
Cancellation Policy: This is a non-refundable course. Students who need to cancel may reschedule for a future course if booked within 90 days of the original course. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the original course will not be rebooked.
What We'll Teach
Medical Emergencies
If you and friends or family were preparing to embark on a hunting trip or a trip to the local gun range, what would your response be if I asked you, “What’s the most likely emergency situation you might have to deal with?” If you said, “A gunshot wound,” you might be surprised to find out that in the United States, you are 1,110 times more likely to find yourself dealing with a stroke, 500 times more likely to find yourself dealing with a cardiac arrest, and tens of thousands of times more likely to find yourself dealing with a diabetic emergency, than you are to find yourself dealing with a gunshot injury. While you should also know how to deal with a gunshot injury (which we addressed in Lesson Two), this lesson will deal with the medical emergencies mentioned above, and many others.
