What You'll Learn
Individual Assessment of Safety, Comprehension, Judgment & Practical Readiness
Public course description
One-on-One Firearms Training Readiness Evaluation
This private evaluation is designed for prospective students who may benefit from an individualized assessment before enrolling in a firearms safety, concealed carry, or practical handgun training program.
The purpose is not to determine whether someone is a “good” or “bad” candidate based on age, education, disability, experience, or background. The purpose is to determine whether the individual can presently demonstrate the understanding, retention, judgment, and safe firearm-handling behaviors necessary to participate successfully in further training.
The evaluation is conducted in a low-pressure, one-on-one setting and allows the instructor to adjust communication and teaching methods while maintaining the same safety and competency standards expected of all FSF, LLC students.
What will be evaluated
The session may include assessment of:
- Understanding of fundamental firearm-safety principles
- Muzzle awareness and trigger-finger discipline
- Ability to follow verbal safety instructions
- Safe handling of an unloaded firearm
- Basic revolver or handgun operation appropriate to the student's firearm
- Safe loading and unloading using inert training ammunition when appropriate
- Ability to understand and repeat important information in the student's own words
- Retention of safety concepts after a period of time
- Recognition of unsafe versus safe behavior
- Basic judgment and decision-making through verbal or simulated scenarios
- Ability to explain why a particular action or decision is appropriate
- Response to correction and ability to apply that correction
- Overall readiness for additional firearms instruction
This is not a shooting qualification and there is no live fire during the evaluation.
Format Private One-on-One Evaluation Approximately 60–90 minutes
The evaluation may be conducted at the student's residence or another mutually approved location when appropriate.
A parent, family member, caregiver, or support person may be present. However, the prospective student must personally respond to questions and demonstrate required skills so the instructor can accurately evaluate individual understanding and readiness.
