Kevin A. Davis is a USCCA-aligned defensive firearms instructor dedicated to empowering responsible gun owners with the knowledge, skill, and confidence needed to protect what matters most. As the owner of Positive Force Personal Protection LLC, Kevin delivers high-quality, student-focused training based on real-world experience and nationally recognized certifications.
Kevin is licensed as a Private Security Services Instructor in Virginia, certified by the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C. as a Firearms Instructor, and credentialed through the NRA to teach Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, and Home Firearm Safety. He also holds active Maryland Private Detective certification, giving him a broadened understanding of threat assessment, situational awareness, and practical defensive action.

Permit training is 16 hours of instruction for an original application and 2 hours of RANGE 50 Rounds shooting qualification 70% to Pass . The approved training is offered by a Qualified Maryland and DC Certified Handgun Instructor and will include instruction on state firearm law, home firearm safety, handgun mechanisms and operation, and a component that requires the applicant to demonstrate gun safety and proficiency with a minimum score of 70% accuracy.
Instructed by an MPD approved certified Instructor Classroom training will include subjects such as: (a) SPO Responsibility,Use of FORCE GO-RAR-901.7 (b) Firearm GO 901.1 (c) The basic principles of marksmanship; (d) The care, cleaning, maintenance, loading, unloading, and storage of pistols; (e) Situational awareness, conflict management, and moral and ethical decisions on the use of deadly force; (f) Defensive pistol and ammunition selection; and (g) DC laws and federal laws regulating firearms and laws of self-defense.

This course is good for 3 years prior to the submission of an HQL application, an applicant must demonstrate a satisfactory completion of a Firearms Safety Training Course. The Firearms Safety Training Course must be instructed by a Qualified Handgun Instructor, and shall consist of a minimum of 4 hours of instruction and include the following minimum curricula:
State Firearm Law. Overview of the State firearm laws, including discussion of what constitutes a regulated firearm, how to properly purchase or transfer a firearm, where allowed to carry or transport a firearm, when necessary to possess a carry permit, who is prohibited from possessing firearms, and state law relating to minors, permissible levels of force, and use of deadly force.
Home Firearm Safety. Overview of handgun and firearm safety in the home, including discussion of access to minors, locking and storing of firearms, and use of safety devices, such as secure lock boxes.
Handgun Mechanisms and Operation. Overview of the proper operation and safe handling of a handgun, including cleaning and maintenance, the loading and unloading of ammunition, and the differences between revolvers and semi-automatic handguns.
Operation and Handling Demonstration. Orientation component that demonstrates the person’s safe operation and handling of a firearm, to include a “live fire” component in which the applicant safely shoots the weapon. An applicant may not be required to fire in excess of 15 yards during qualification
You will complete a series of drills meant to test your ability to load and unload, load and shoot, reload, and clear malfunctions while engaging a target at a distance of 3 yards. Each drill will be timed. This course of fire is designed to test your ability to complete these tasks under the stress of time while accurately engaging your target at a plausible self-defense distance
This course will go over Instructor Mistakes Teaching Best practices,safe gun handling techniques,universal safety rules , and your ability to teach the uscca curriculum as a trusted subject matter expert. 50 round shooting qual 80% to pass
Advance Training with firearm, Refresher and recertification on OC Spray and Baton Joint Locks and retention Techniques.

This 12-hour Maryland Security Certification Course provides the required training for individuals seeking employment as a professional security officer in Maryland. The course covers state laws, legal authority, use-of-force guidelines, emergency response, patrol procedures, report writing, and professional conduct.
