One option is the traditional, instructor-led course where you will receive direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor from beginning to end. Building a safe, efficient draw from the holster takes focused practice and consistent technique. This Skill Builder class is designed to help students develop a smooth, repeatable handgun presentation from the holster while reinforcing the safety habits that matter most: keeping the muzzle in a safe direction, keeping the finger off the trigger until ready to fire, and working from a holster that properly protects the trigger area.
Students will learn and practice the fundamentals of the draw stroke step by step, including establishing a proper grip, clearing the holster safely, presenting the handgun toward the target, and returning the handgun to the holster with control. Emphasis is placed on safe gun handling, safe re-holstering, consistency, and building confidence through structured repetition in a supervised class setting. This class is ideal for students who want to improve their handgun-handling skills and build a stronger foundation for responsible carry and range use. Training standards commonly emphasize close supervision for newer shooters, muzzle discipline, trigger-finger discipline, and holsters that fit the handgun and cover the trigger guard.
This Introduction to the AR-15 course is a foundational, classroom-based program designed for new and prospective AR-15 owners who want to build a safe, confident understanding of America’s most common modern sporting rifle.
Over the course of two hours, students will be introduced to the history and evolution of the AR-15 platform, gaining context for its development, civilian use, and widespread adoption. The class will then move into a detailed overview of the major components and parts of the AR-15, including the upper and lower receiver groups, operating controls, and basic function of the rifle.
A strong emphasis is placed on safe handling and responsible ownership. Students will learn and practice proper handling procedures, including safe muzzle awareness, trigger discipline, and best practices for working with the rifle in a classroom environment. Instruction will also cover loading and unloading procedures, chamber checks, and verification of a safe condition—conducted without live ammunition.
The course will introduce basic shooting stances and rifle handling techniques, focusing on body positioning, balance, and control to help students establish a solid foundation for future live-fire training. Additional topics may include sling use, basic maintenance concepts, and common terminology used with the AR-15 platform.
This course is non-live-fire and designed to be educational, hands-on, and accessible, making it ideal for beginners or those seeking a structured introduction before attending a range-based class.
Student Requirements:
- Students must bring their own AR-15
- NO ammunition is permitted in the classroom
All rifles must arrive unloaded and secured in a case for the duration of the class until needed.
By the end of the course, students will have a clearer understanding of the AR-15 platform, improved confidence in safe handling, and a solid knowledge base to continue their training responsibly.
