My Biography
Don started shooting at around the age of 9 and has been involved with firearms ever since. In college he started in martial arts classes and his shooting evolved from a separate activity into part of an overall personal protection strategy. Aside from his primary goal of safe practice, training, and instruction, Don seeks to integrate physical force training (such as martial arts) with firearm training. During all training he seeks ways to bridge the training gap between the two and bring this integration to his trainees.

Small class sizes with very favorable student to instructor ratio. This session uses a private and outdoor range.
This course covers basic individual and family emergency preparedness, and focuses on ‘shelter at home’ level threats. Using risk analysis methodologies in reality based scenarios, trainees are not only educated on an emergency preparedness mindset, but more importantly on the critical thinking processes necessary to instill mental adaptability and resource versatility.
From this approach, real actions, real contingencies, and real inventories are developed to help the family in real situations. Not just hypothetical situations, the critical thinking approach to evaluating risk is instilled so each trainee can evaluate their own situation and their emergency preparations are customized to their needs.
This course builds off Emergency Preparedness 1 and uses the same risk analysis and threat prioritization approach to building a portable emergency kit. The roles of “Get Home Bags”, “Bug Out Bags”, and “Indefinite Evacuation Bags” are covered, as well as suggested contents and a methodology for creating a tiered emergency kit system.
This course is recommended for those who have obtained their CPL and are seeking proficiency in concealed carry. This 4 hour training module focuses on the draw from holster. It includes:
engagement timeline analysis, selection of handgun, carry location, holster, clothing acquiring a wieldable grip from the draw, draw stroke, pectoral indexing and point shooting, support hand disposition, acquiring sight alignment/picture from the draw, and movement to shooting from extension.
This course is recommended for those who have obtained their CPL and are seeking additional proficiency with concealed carry.
This 4 hour training module focuses on:
Threat assessment: Determining an assailant’s capabilities. Perceived threat, weapons used, threat distance, cover/obstacle assessment, and more.
Threat prioritization: After assessing each threat, determining the priority in which multiple threats should be engaged and neutralized.
Multiple threat engagement: Developing effective targeting and neutralization of multiple threats based on prioritization and expediency.
Multiple target zones: Assailants may have cover or concealment and only exposing themselves partially. Additionally, from the draw the protector may be sweeping the target up to compressed shooting before extension. Expediency of shot placement will be covered.
This class is intended for those who have obtained their CPL and seek additional proficiency in concealed carry capabilities.
This course covers different body positions including standing, kneeling, sitting, prone, supine, and urban prone, and shooting considerations from each of them. Yes, you will be in the dirt and should dress accordingly.
This course also covers transitions to and from these positions, why one would choose that transition, and how to safely transition between these positions while still maintaining force engagement.
This is our most physically demanding course because of the many positions we will be moving to/from. That being said, we don’t run a boot camp, we run a class. We will be maximizing proficiency per repetition.
The tomahawk is a weapon that has been used in every major American conflict, from frontier wars at our country’s inception to the latest actions in Iraq, Afghanistan, and more. It has served our forefathers and our military both as an every day tool and as a protective device. In its most modern configuration, the tomahawk is a well balanced weapon that also serves as a breaching tool in urban warfare scenarios and is used by many Special Forces personnel.
There is very little training available for the tactical tomahawk in modern times, but the unique characteristics of this weapon make it exceptionally useful and devastating. It is more than a hacking tool, it is a multifaceted instrument suitable for percussion as well as grappling application. Keep and Bear, LLC is honored to provide our training curriculum exploring the tactical tomahawk.
Topics covered include:
Proper stance with the tomahawk. Brief history from the initial stages of our country to its modern use. Frontier era usage, carry, and deployment. Modern usage, carry, and deployment. Percussion and grappling applications using various aspects of the tomahawk. Lethal vs less lethal usage considerations. Timing, spacing, and distancing drills. Usage concerns based on the tomahawk unique characteristics. Retention applications.
This hands-on class covers multiple facets of protection including situational awareness, instinctual responses, and nonphysical applications to preclude an encounter where protection is required. From there, physical force applications are instructed including striking, force multipliers (hand weapons), and using them to assist in strikes and escapes from common grabs and other grapples.
These applications are intended to result in escape from a controlling engagement so the defender can reassess the situation and act to prevent harm (usually by escaping, neutralizing with physical force, or creating the time and distance necessary to bring lethal force options to bear).
THIS COURSE IS TAUGHT WITH AN ASL INTERPRETER.

After that we do the range portion of the class, where we will cover basic shooting fundamentals, including grip, sight alignment and picture, trigger control, hold control, and more. If these terms are new to you, don’t worry, they are not complicated and will be taught in class at a level the youth can understand.
