This course meets and exceeds the state requirements to apply for and obtain your concealed pistol license. We have a great team of highly qualified instructors to guide you through this process. We maintain a maximum of a 2:1 ratio of students to instructors while on the range. We'd love to answer any questions you have before signing up!
If you are brand new to shooting, while we do not require, we do HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you consider taking our beginner handgun class to become familiar with handguns prior to taking this CPL class.
While we encourage you to bring your own firearm if you have one, we also have rentals available for an additional $25. Please note that rentals MUST be arranged before the day of your course in order to ensure that you have a firearm ready to be used during your course.
If you have a cadence such as Junior, please put that at the end of your last name when signing up.
The idea is to make one good first decision, are you up for the challenge?
Using psychology to leverage your knowledge to make good decisions under pressure is what this course is all about. There are very few dry practice or range exercises for the private citizen that focus on making lethal, less than lethal, and non lethal decisions quickly. This course is designed to fill that gap by learning how to make decisions when provoked, decide which tool to use, and then act on that decision.
Upon leaving this course you will be able to better focus your dry practice to pre-program responses to stimulus. When the attacker chooses you, THEY choose how and when. Your response needs to be confident, quick, and decisive. This class unlocks how to practice that and more.
Whether you've been carrying for a while or are wondering what to do to better protect yourself or your loved ones, this class is for you. This course allows you to run through situations and scenarios that pop up in everyday life while being able to digest your actions without legal or lethal consequences. What's not to love?
This beginner-level course is for those who have little to no experience with the safe and effective operation of a handgun. This course makes a perfect first stop prior to taking a CPL (Concealed Handgun) course.
This course takes place in our classroom. All materials and items needed will be provided by Wolverine Defense Academy!
After reviewing safety rules, operation of a handgun, fundamentals of shooting including the proper grip, stance, sight usage, and trigger press, each student will have a chance to work with our simulated handguns to experience putting those skills into action.
Multiple techniques for each fundamental skill are discussed and experimentation with those techniques is encouraged throughout the course.
Please call us at (269) 350-4494 or stop by during our regular business hours at 8139 Portage Rd. Portage, MI 49002 for more information about this course.

Pepper spray is a commonly carried tool, but it is also commonly misunderstood. This class is designed to dispel myths and encourage you to find comfort with a tool that is somewhere between a harsh word and a gun.
Topics covered include: Chemical components of pepper spray and what to look for in a spray, carry positions for the spray, legalities of carry and use in Michigan, decontamination, and more.
You will have time to practice with inert spray during class. There is no LIVE AGENT EXPOSURE during this class.
Class fee includes Inert trainer to use during the class.
Pepper spray can be a great alternative to carrying a firearm, or it can enhance your ability to control a situation before needing a firearm.
Questions? Call 269-350-4494 to learn more.
Do you have holster questions? Are you trying to figure out how to choose the right holster for your activity? Are you trying to figure out how to efficiently and effectively get your firearm out of the holster?
If your answer is yes to any of the above questions, then this is the class for you. If you have taken a CPL class, or are planning on tackling competitive shooting and you're trying to figure out the what and how of holsters, then you're in the right spot.
This course is designed to explore different holsters, how to make the holster more comfortable, and a bit of concealment concepts. Then we work on how to get the gun out of the holster. During the second half of the class, we work through getting the gun out of the holster and on target efficiently and safely.
If you have a firearm/holster combination that you currently own, we encourage you to bring it to this class. Please note that there is no live-fire and any guns/holsters will be inspected multiple times to make sure there is no live ammunition in the cases/boxes/bags/firearms, etc... that you bring with you to ensure safety during this event.
