Pistol Red Dot Sighting (RDS) System Course
Miniature Red Dot Sights (RDS) on pistols have become increasingly popular among law enforcement professionals and defense-minded citizens—and for good reason. When properly set up and used, RDS-equipped pistols offer significant advantages over traditional iron sights. However, these advantages come with unique challenges that must be addressed through training and maintenance interventions.
This one-day course is designed to teach students how to effectively set up, maintain, and operate a pistol-mounted red dot sight. Topics include:
• Proper RDS setup and zeroing • Inspection and maintenance procedures • Environmental considerations • Core marksmanship fundamentals specific to RDS use • Rapid dot acquisition and recoil tracking • Presentations from ready positions and the holster • Manipulation techniques under stress and more
Requirements:
There are no formal prerequisites, but students should have a solid understanding of basic pistol operation and range safety. A pistol equipped with a red dot sight is required, along with:
• A quality holster • Three spare magazines • Magazine pouches • A sturdy gun belt • Eye and ear protection • Minimum 300 rounds of reliable ammunition
Students who successfully complete this class and the qualification, and purchase a range membership at Evan’s Shooters World, will be allowed to draw from the holster each time they visit the range.
