My Biography
Steve Faris - Firearms Training Expert
With over three decades of experience in firearms training and competitive shooting, Steve Faris is here to share his passion and expertise with you! His journey began in 1991 as a Police Officer with the U.S. Navy, where he developed his skills with the trusty 1911 pistol while stationed at Naval Air Station Alameda. Steve's love for marksmanship blossomed during Navy shooting competitions, earning him Expert Marksmanship Medals in both Service Rifle and Pistol categories by 1998.
After retiring from the Navy in 2010, Steve shifted gears to the civilian shooting world, participating in National GSSF Matches, local IDPA, and Practical Pistol Matches. He enjoys competing on Law Enforcement and Civilian shooting teams, typically taking part in one to two matches each month.
With a Master's Degree in Adult Education and Training, Steve left a fulfilling 15-year career at the Federal Bureau of Prisons to pursue his true passion: teaching. He is state-certified to teach Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) courses for the San Bernardino County Sheriff, Riverside County Sheriff, and Los Angeles County Sheriff, helping people feel more confident and prepared.
Steve’s impressive credentials include being a Retired U.S. Navy Chief Gunnersmate, Defensive Firearms Coach, USCCA Training Counselor, and a certified instructor in various firearms disciplines. But what truly sets him apart is his warm, approachable nature. He loves connecting with students and making the learning process enjoyable and effective.
In 2017, Steve and his wife Julie founded Aegis Authority, LP, a premier firearms training company in Southern California, dedicated to providing top-notch training experiences. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to sharpen your skills, Steve is excited to empower you on your journey to confidence and safety with firearms.

Defensive Pistol Level 3 – CCW SKILLBUILDER is an intensive, four-hour live-fire workshop designed to bridge the gap between basic handgun competency and real-world concealed carry proficiency.
Led by elite instructors with real-world operational experience, this course strips away the theory and focuses on the physical execution, speed, and precision required to survive a critical incident.
Rather than a rigid, one-size-fits-all curriculum, our instructors assess performance in real time to tailor the agenda and course of fire to the specific breakthroughs you need.
What You Will Master
Concealed Draw & Presentation: Perfecting efficient, consistent presentation of the handgun from your everyday carry holster.
Dynamic Marksmanship: Transitioning from static shooting to advanced techniques, including move-stop-and-shoot sequences.
Proactive Weapon Handling: Seamlessly executing combat loading, unloading, reloads, and positive status checks under tight time standards.
Complex Engagements: Rapidly managing multiple targets, executing multi-shot strings, and deploying single-hand shooting techniques.
Tactical Application: Integrating the foundational use of cover, tactical situational awareness, and thorough post-engagement target scanning.
Gear Optimization: Critically reviewing your current handgun selection, support equipment, placement, and preventative maintenance strategies to ensure 100% operational reliability.
Who Is This For?
This is an advanced, high-tempo skill builder engineered specifically for dedicated concealed carry permit holders, defensive shooters, and graduates of Level 2 Run Your Gun. You will leave this course with a measurable baseline of your speed and accuracy, an optimized gear layout, and a definitive blueprint for your personal training.
Firearm Safety Seminar is a comprehensive, completely free virtual workshop delivered live via Zoom.
Engineered for absolute beginners, first-time gun buyers, and families looking to establish a solid safety blueprint at home, this entry-level class highlights the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential for selecting, handling, and storing a firearm responsibly.
Led by premier instructors, this seminar demystifies firearms by breaking down critical home safety concepts in a relaxed, accessible environment.
What We Will Cover
The Core Rules of Gun Safety: A deep dive into the mandatory safe-handling principles that every responsible citizen must know to prevent accidents.
Safe Home Storage & Security: Evaluating locks, lockboxes, and gun safes to ensure unauthorized or untrained individuals never gain access to your firearms.
Firearm Mechanics & Actions: Understanding the difference between modern pistol types, revolvers, and long guns, and exactly how their internal parts function.
Ammunition & Sights: How to properly identify, match, and select the correct ammunition for a specific firearm, alongside an overview of iron sights vs. optics.
Range Etiquette & Readiness: Exactly what gear you need to bring, what to expect on the firing line, and how to understand critical commands given by a Range Safety Officer.
Preventative Maintenance: Simple, foundational steps for cleaning and maintaining your firearm to guarantee long-term operational reliability and value.
Who Is This For?
This online seminar is 100% beginner-friendly and requires absolutely no prior firearm experience. It is the perfect starting point for anyone considering a purchase, families seeking to secure their household, or shooters wanting a definitive refresher on the rules of safe ownership before hitting the range.
Class Logistics & Prerequisite
Cost: Free.Location: Live online streaming via Zoom.
Required Items: Just a notepad and a computer, tablet, or smartphone with an active internet connection.
Please do not bring any real firearms or live ammunition into your virtual learning space.
This does not meet the requirements for a Court-Ordered Firearms Safety Class.
Defensive Pistol: Level 2 – Run Your Gun is an intensive, diagnostic-driven workshop specifically designed to help you secure your official USCCA Protector Academy Level 1, 2, and 3 Range Certifications.
Led directly by a Certified USCCA Training Counselor, this class strips away the lecturing and maximizes your trigger time. It offers a dedicated environment to work through each qualification drill as many times as you need to perfect your mechanics, beat the timer, and claim your credentials.
What Makes This Class Different Pure Manipulation over Draw Mechanics: Holsters are mandatory for safety and weapon retention, but our core focus is strictly on running the gun. You will dive straight into high-repetition workspace manipulations rather than drawing from concealment.
Unlimited Diagnostic Repetitions: This isn't a rigid, one-and-done testing block. You bring your gear and ammo, put in the sweat equity, and leverage real-time instructor feedback to adjust and rerun any course of fire until you meet the standard.
Comprehensive Validation: Walk away with documented proof of your competency under pressure. We will systematically cover the timed loading, reloading, clear-control, and accuracy metrics required across all three foundational certification tiers.
Core Focus Areas
Time-Standard Reloads: High-volume practice of tactical and emergency reloads under the clock.
Advanced Malfunction Clearance: Real-time diagnostics to keep your weapon operational when seconds count.
Balance of Speed and Precision: Finding your maximum cadence of accurate fire at realistic defensive distances.
Post-Engagement Routine: Building habits for searching and assessing your environment after every string of fire.
Prerequisites & Logistics
Required Gear: Reliable semi-automatic handgun, appropriate baseline holster, multiple magazines, mag pouches, ear/eye protection, and a shot timer if you prefer your own device.
Ammunition: Bring all your own factory-fresh defensive or range ammo. Due to the high-repetition nature of this course, 200-250 rounds are highly recommended to maximize your attempts.
To ensure consistent standards and regulatory compliance for non-resident CCW applicants, please adhere to the following instructional guidelines:

Arizona Non-Resident CCW – Multi-State Reciprocity Add-On is a specialized, administrative live workshop held in conjunction with your California CCW class.
While a California CCW permit is highly valuable, it is notoriously restrictive outside state lines.
By adding an Arizona Non-Resident CCW permit to your wallet, you instantly unlock extensive multi-state reciprocity, expanding your legal carrying authority across a large portion of the United States.
This efficient companion course handles the heavy lifting of the application process right in the classroom, ensuring your paperwork is flawless before submission to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS).
Why Add the Arizona CCW? (The Power of Reciprocity) Cross-Border Protection: A California CCW permit is not recognized by neighboring states such as Arizona and Nevada. If you cross state lines to travel, vacation, or do business, you are completely unprotected.
Massive Nationwide Footprint: The Arizona Non-Resident permit is one of the most powerful reciprocity credentials in the country. It allows law-abiding California residents to legally carry concealed in over 30 additional states (including popular travel destinations like Nevada, Utah, Texas, and Florida).
Seamless Travel Security: Instead of locking your defensive firearm in a trunk container every time you leave California, you can maintain continuous, legal personal protection for yourself and your loved ones while traveling interstate.
What Your $100 Course Fee Covers
Complete Application Packet: All official AZDPS application documents are provided and filled out under direct instructor guidance to eliminate processing delays.
Professional Fingerprint Cards: Two mandatory, ink-rolled fingerprint cards completed during the class session by certified personnel.
Official Training Certificate: The required physical documentation verifying your firearms competency to comply with Arizona state law.
What You Must Bring to Class
To complete your packet for submission, you must bring the following items to the workshop:
Processing Fee: A blank money order or cashier's check for $60 made payable to "AZ DPS" (this is the state's separate background check fee).
Identification: A clean, legible photocopy of your current Driver’s License.
Proof of Citizenship: If you were not born naturally in the United States, you must bring a photocopy of your official proof of US Citizenship (e.g., US Passport, Naturalization Certificate, or Born Abroad documentation).
Utah Non-Resident CCW – Multi-State Reciprocity Add-On is an administrative workshop held in conjunction with your California CCW class. While a California permit allows you to carry within the state, it leaves you legally unprotected across most of the country.
Pairing your training with a Utah Non-Resident CCW permit instantly expands your legal carrying power to over 30 additional states (including neighboring Nevada and Washington).
By completing this module alongside your California training, you maximize your time and budget. The overlapping curriculum ensures your paperwork, fingerprints, and credentialing are finalized flawlessly under the eye of a certified instructor, ready for submission to the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI).
The Strategic Value to Your CA CCW Class
Overlapping Training Efficiency: Utah requires a specific curriculum block that seamlessly aligns with your California educational standards. Taking them together means you sit through the foundational legal and safety lectures only once, unlocking two powerful permits in a single session.
Instant Out-of-State Coverage: California does not share reciprocity with surrounding states. Adding the Utah Non-Resident permit gives you immediate, legal concealed carry privileges the moment you cross state lines into heavy-travel corridors like Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and Texas.
Maximum Dollar Utility: Instead of booking a separate training day, buying extra range ammo, and paying another standalone course fee later, this add-on handles your complete out-of-state paperwork package on the spot.
What Your $100 Add-On Fee Covers
Official Utah BCI Application: The complete, specialized application paperwork is handled directly in class, with step-by-step instructor guidance, to ensure zero processing delays.
Professional Fingerprint Cards: Two mandatory, blue-lined physical fingerprint cards completed in the classroom by certified personnel.
The Official Instructor Stamp: Validation from your certified instructor that serves as the mandatory legal credential required by Utah BCI to process your packet.
What You Must Bring to Class
To satisfy Utah's strict application criteria, ensure you bring these required items to the workshop:
Passport Photo: One physical, passport-quality color photograph (2" x 2") taken within the last six months.
Identification: A clean, clear photocopy of your current Driver’s License.
Proof of Citizenship: If you were born outside the United States, you must bring a clear photocopy of your official proof of U.S. citizenship (e.g., a U.S. passport or Naturalization Certificate).
Florida Non-Resident CCW – Multi-State Reciprocity Add-On is an administrative workshop held in conjunction with your California CCW class.
Carrying a California permit is critical at home, but it provides zero legal protection once you cross state lines. Adding a Florida Non-Resident CCW permit instantly expands your legal carrying power across over 30 additional states, turning your local training into a powerful nationwide defensive tool.
By completing this module alongside your California training, you eliminate the hassle of separate classes. Your application, mandatory ink fingerprinting, and legal certifications are completed on the spot under the direct guidance of an instructor, ready for flawless processing by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS).
Why Add the Florida CCW? (The Power of Reciprocity) Interstate Protection: California shares zero reciprocity with surrounding states. If you travel, vacation, or conduct business across state lines, your California permit cannot protect you.
Massive Nationwide Footprint: The Florida Non-Resident permit is widely regarded as one of the most respected credentials in the country. It allows law-abiding Californians to legally carry concealed across a large portion of the United States—including major travel destinations like Nevada, Utah, Texas, and Ohio.
Continuous Travel Security: Instead of constantly unloading, casing, and locking away your defensive firearm when crossing borders, a Florida permit allows you to maintain seamless, lawful personal protection for yourself and your loved ones.
What Your $100 Add-On Fee Covers
Official Florida Application Package: The complete, specialized state documentation is handled step by step in class to prevent administrative delays or rejections.
Professional Fingerprint Cards: Two mandatory physical fingerprint cards are completed in the classroom by certified personnel.
Official Training Certificate: The required physical documentation validating your safe handling and firearms competency to fully satisfy Florida state law.
What You Must Bring to Class
To finalize your Florida packet for submission, you must bring the following items to the workshop:
Processing Fee: A blank money order or cashier's check for $97 made payable to the "Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services" (this covers the state's background and licensing fees).
Passport Photo: One physical, passport-size color photograph taken within the last six months.
Identification: A clean, clear photocopy of your current Driver’s License.
Proof of Citizenship: If you were born outside the United States, you must bring a clear photocopy of your official proof of U.S. citizenship (e.g., a U.S. passport or Naturalization Certificate).
Please join us for a gun cleaning class! Bring your favorite PISTOL. We will go over your gun and show you how to take care of it. You will leave with everything you need to take care of your gun.
Defensive Pistol: Level 1 – HOLSTER SKILL DEVELOPMENT is a specialized, mechanics-driven masterclass engineered to build a fast, safe, and highly intuitive draw from concealment. In a defensive encounter, distance is safety and time is life.
This course focuses on the objective standard of drawing from the holster to an accurate first shot in under 2 seconds.
By isolating the physical components of the draw stroke, we strip away wasted movement to build true consistency under pressure.
The Focus: Efficiency Over Speed True speed is simply the economy of motion. This class relies heavily on intensive dry-practice micro-drills and precise movement critique. Our instructors analyze your draw frame by frame to identify and eliminate hitching, extra steps, or unnecessary body mechanics that slow you down.
You won't just practice drawing; you will rebuild your presentation from the ground up to make it entirely subconscious and razor-sharp.
What You Will Master The Sub-2-Second Standard: Breaking down the timeline of a critical incident to consistently achieve a clean, accurate first shot from concealment under the 2-second mark.
Concealment Garment Clearing: Developing reliable, explosive techniques for clearing everyday cover garments (shirts, jackets, vests) without snagging.
Biomechanical Efficiency: Minimizing muzzle dip, excess movement, and "fishing" to establish the shortest path from the holster to the target.
Early Sight Acquisition: Learning to track your sights and prep the trigger dynamically as the gun meets your line of sight, allowing for an immediate, stable press.
The Secure Re-Holster: Mastering safe, deliberate, and non-visual indexing back into the holster to ensure absolute safety after a threat is neutralized.
Who Is This For? This course is open to shooters who have a solid handle on basic handgun safety and marksmanship but want to safely transition to working from a holster. It is an absolute necessity for modern concealed-carry permit holders to realize that a defensive firearm is useless if they cannot deploy it effectively in a split second.
Gear Requirements Your everyday carry semi-automatic handgun. A high-quality, rigid holster (IWB or OWB) designed specifically for your firearm, securely retaining the weapon. No soft nylon, floppy leather, or generic click-retention holsters for safety reasons. The sturdy belt you normally wear for carrying. Everyday concealment clothing.
