What You'll Learn

The Proving Ground

Force-on-Force Defensive Handgun Training

You've Trained for It. Now Put Your Skills to the Test.

You've spent time on the range. You've practiced your shooting fundamentals, worked on your defensive handgun skills, and learned how to handle your firearm safely.

But what happens when the situation isn't predictable?

What if you don't know where a threat might come from? What if the person in front of you isn't actually a threat? What if the best decision is to walk away rather than draw your firearm?

Real life doesn't come with a script. Your training shouldn't always have one, either.

Welcome to The Proving Ground, an immersive, force-on-force defensive handgun experience designed to challenge your awareness, judgment, and decision-making through realistic, interactive scenarios.

Using airsoft training equipment in a controlled environment, you'll face situations that require you to think, adapt, and make decisions under pressure.

Five Scenarios. Unknown Challenges. Real Decisions.

During The Proving Ground, you'll participate in five different force-on-force scenarios, each designed to challenge a different aspect of defensive decision-making.

You won't know exactly what each scenario involves before it begins. That's intentional.

Just like in everyday life, you may encounter unexpected situations, incomplete information, and decisions that aren't always obvious.

Some scenarios may require you to recognize a threat. Others may challenge your ability to avoid confrontation, communicate effectively, protect innocent people, or determine whether defensive force is justified.

And remember, successfully completing a scenario doesn't necessarily mean firing a shot. Sometimes the best decision is not to use your firearm at all.

What You'll Experience

SITUATIONAL AWARENESS — Recognizing Potential Danger

Learn to identify warning signs, recognize changing circumstances, and evaluate situations before they escalate.

DECISION-MAKING UNDER PRESSURE — Thinking Beyond the Target

Explore the challenges of making responsible decisions when information is limited, emotions are elevated, and circumstances change unexpectedly.

THREAT RECOGNITION — Knowing When NOT to Shoot

Not every suspicious person is a threat, and not every confrontation justifies defensive force. Practice evaluating situations and recognizing the importance of restraint.

COMMUNICATION & DE-ESCALATION — More Than One Way to Resolve a Threat

Experience situations where verbal communication, creating distance, or safely disengaging may be more appropriate than confrontation.

DEFENSIVE RESPONSIBILITY — Understanding the Consequences

Explore the legal, ethical, and safety considerations involved in defensive firearm decisions, including the potential risks to innocent bystanders.

This Isn't Your Typical Day at the Range

The Proving Ground isn't about shooting the smallest group or being the fastest person to draw.

It's about discovering how you respond when the answers aren't obvious.

Through supervised airsoft-based exercises, you'll have opportunities to apply your knowledge, recognize areas for improvement, and learn from your decisions.

Following each scenario, we'll discuss what happened, what options were available, and what lessons you can take away from the experience.

Our goal isn't to prove that you're ready for every possible situation. It's to help you identify what you do well, where you can improve, and why continued training matters.

Who Should Take This Class?

The Proving Ground is designed for:

Concealed handgun permit holders

Graduates of our Defensive Pistol courses

Responsible firearm owners interested in realistic defensive training

Individuals who want to challenge their judgment and decision-making in a controlled environment

Returning students looking for a different kind of training experience

Prerequisite: Participants must hold a valid Concealed Carry Permit or have successfully completed a Basic Defensive Handgun course before enrolling.

What to Wear & Bring

This is hands-on, force-on-force training. Come prepared to participate!

During the scenarios, you should expect the possibility of being struck by airsoft BBs. Impacts can sting, so dressing appropriately will help make your training experience more comfortable.

Dress in layers: Long sleeves, long pants, and thicker clothing are strongly recommended.

Wear a hoodie or sweatshirt: Additional layers can help reduce discomfort from airsoft impacts.

Bring gloves: Gloves are strongly recommended to help protect your hands.

Wear closed-toe shoes: Choose comfortable, secure footwear suitable for movement.

Bring an airsoft mask if you have one: We provide protective airsoft masks for students who need them. If you own one, you're encouraged to bring it, provided it meets our safety requirements.

Important: Instructor-approved eye and full-face protection are required during all airsoft scenarios. Protective clothing reduces discomfort but does not eliminate the risk of injury.

All scenario equipment will be inspected, and live firearms, live ammunition, and other unauthorized weapons are strictly prohibited in the training area.

Think You Know How You'll Respond? Let's Find Out.

You can practice on the range. You can study defensive tactics. You can imagine what you might do in a dangerous situation.

But experiencing an unpredictable scenario in a controlled training environment can reveal things that ordinary target practice cannot.

The Proving Ground

Five Scenarios. Countless Decisions. One Challenge.

This course uses airsoft training equipment in a controlled, supervised environment. Scenarios are educational simulations and cannot reproduce every aspect of a real defensive encounter. Participation requires compliance with all safety procedures and instructor directions.

Cancellation Policy: Students are required to cancel at least 48 hours in advance of a class date in order to receive a full refund. Classes cancelled less than 48 hours before the class will not be refunded, but student can be moved to another class.
