Owning a firearm and knowing how to shoot at a target are important starting points. But defensive shooting involves more than simply standing at a firing line and taking aim.
Our Level 1 – Defensive Pistol class is designed to help you build practical handgun skills, develop safe handling habits, and become more comfortable with the fundamentals of defensive firearm use.
Whether you're preparing to obtain your North Carolina Concealed Handgun Permit, have recently received your permit, or simply want to improve your skills, this class provides a foundation for continued defensive pistol training.
What You'll Learn
Modes of Carry: Explore different ways to carry a handgun, including their advantages, limitations, and important safety considerations.
Drawing From a Holster: Learn safe, controlled techniques for accessing and presenting your firearm.
Drawing and Firing: Practice safely transitioning from the holster to accurate, controlled shots under instructor supervision.
Point Shooting: Explore close-range shooting fundamentals and the differences between sighted and unsighted shooting.
Defensive Shooting Fundamentals: Develop a better understanding of grip, stance, trigger control, firearm presentation, and maintaining accuracy.

No advanced shooting experience is required, although students should be comfortable following basic firearm safety instructions.

Cancellation Policy: Students are required to cancel at least 48 hours in advance of a class date in order to receive a full refund. Classes cancelled less than 48 hours before the class will not be refunded, but student can be moved to another class.
What We'll Teach
Defensive Shooting Fundamentals
This lesson will continue with the basics, including a very visual overview of what we call the “building blocks” or the fundamentals for accurate and safe shooting. Within this lesson, Michael Martin will explain the differences between the skills required for being a good “marksman” at the range, and the skills that might be required to save your life if you are ever the subject of a violent attack.
