What You'll Learn
This two-day course meets all New Mexico DPS requirements for the initial concealed handgun carry license. Using USCCA's Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals curriculum, the course combines classroom instruction with live-fire range time covering everything you need to carry confidently and responsibly.
You'll learn how handguns work, how to handle and store them safely, how to shoot accurately under stress, and how New Mexico law defines when and how force may be used in self-defense. We'll also cover what happens in the immediate aftermath of a defensive encounter, because knowing how to act after matters as much as knowing how to respond in the moment.
Topics include safe handling and operation of handguns, shooting fundamentals, live-fire qualification, situational awareness and conflict avoidance, New Mexico and federal firearms laws, legal use of force, and violent encounter response and aftermath.
Upon successful completion you'll receive a certificate of completion from a NM DPS-approved instructor, which you submit with your concealed carry license application.
Course details: Two days, classroom and range. Live fire required. Bring your handgun and 50 rounds of ammunition.
Cancellation Policy: Students are required to cancel at least 48 hours in advance of a class date in order to receive a full refund. Classes cancelled less than 48 hours before the class will not be refunded.
