What You'll Learn
This course provides a practical introduction to the legal and responsible use of force for self-defense in Massachusetts.
Drawing from educational materials published by the Massachusetts State Police firearms safety curriculum standards, and applicable Massachusetts General Laws (MGL) and Code of Massachusetts Regulations (CMR), students will examine the legal principles surrounding self-defense, defense of others, and the justified use of force.
Topics include situational awareness, avoidance and de-escalation, disparity of force, duty to retreat, lawful firearm possession and carry considerations, post-incident actions, and how prosecutors and investigators may evaluate use-of-force incidents.
Designed for responsible gun owners and permit applicants, this course emphasizes informed decision-making, safe conduct, and understanding the serious legal and personal consequences associated with defensive force.
