Michigan, Concealed Pistol License (CPL) class is a mandatory training course designed to educate and certify individuals seeking a license to carry a concealed pistol legally. The class covers various aspects of firearm safety, legal considerations, and practical handling of firearms. Here’s an overview of what is typically included in a CPL class:
- Eligibility Requirements Being at least 21 years old. A Michigan resident for at least six months. No felony convictions or disqualifying misdemeanors.
- Class Duration The Michigan CPL course is 8 hours long, as required by state law.
- Topics Covered The curriculum typically includes: Firearm Safety: Safe handling, storage, and maintenance of firearms. Legal Education: Understanding Michigan firearm laws, including the legal use of deadly force and concealed carry laws. Conflict Avoidance Shooting Fundamentals: Proper grip, stance, sight alignment, and trigger control, and more.
- Certification Upon successful completion of the class, participants receive a certificate of completion. This document is required when applying for a Michigan CPL. Additional Notes A background check and additional fees are required when applying for the CPL with the county clerk’s office.
