Concealed Carry & Home Defense

My Biography

After teaching public school for three years, I left the classroom to embark on a career in law enforcement, where I have proudly served as a police officer for more than 21 years. I am an instructor with the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) and the Washtenaw County Community College Police Academy. I am also a certified Concealed Pistol License (CPL) instructor with the U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) and a certified Violent Critical Incident (VCI) Response instructor through ALICE Active Shooter Response Training. In addition to my experience as an instructor of police officers and law enforcement students, I have also been a coach, a tutor, a camp counselor, and a youth mentor. The education and empowerment of others have always been in my heart. I created Smart Rabbit Safety School because I want to share with others the knowledge that I have learned throughout my career: strategies to face everyday threats in a modern world, the freedom in overcoming fear, and a life of confidence, self-reliance, and peace of mind.

This course offers training in the safe and skillful carry and use of firearms. Participants will study the tactical, legal, and moral considerations related to firearms, as well as an introduction to general safety concepts, such as situational awareness, conflict avoidance, conflict resolution and de-escalation, and fundamentals of home security. Upon completion of this course, consisting of five classroom hours and three range hours, participants will be issued a Course Certificate, which will satisfy the State of Michigan’s requirement to apply for and obtain a CPL.

This course is the perfect training for anyone who’s obtained CPL Certification but is looking for some additional time on the range, or for someone who’s a little rusty and wants to improve ability and confidence. Participants will learn reloading, resolving malfunctions, shooting from cover, shooting at multiple body areas, shooting at multiple targets, and basic drills to increase your accuracy and speed. “Perfect Practice Makes Perfect!”

Specifically designed for participants of high school or college age, this one-of-a-kind course presents the concepts and best practices that all young people need, as they begin driving, start a new job, or leave home for the first time. Attendees will understand how to anticipate, avoid, and confront danger and will obtain simple but widely applicable tools for personal safety planning, home defense, tactical driving, defensive dating & socialization, protection from online & financial threats, and more. This fun and empowering course offers young adults, and their parents, safety, confidence, and peace of mind!
