What You'll Learn
Elevate your firearm knowledge and skills with our comprehensive Classroom Instruction: Parts 1 & 2. This all-inclusive course is ideal for both initial and renewal applicants, blending classroom theory with hands-on range experience over two days.
Day 1: Classroom Instruction (8 Hours)
Maryland Firearms Laws: Gain a thorough understanding of the legal landscape in Maryland. Reasons To Own A Firearm: Explore the various motivations and responsibilities tied to firearm ownership. Firearm Safety: Master the core principles of firearm safety. Purchasing A Firearm In MD: Navigate the legalities of buying a firearm in Maryland. Handgun Mechanism And Operation: Learn the mechanics and operation of handguns. Gear And Gadgets (USCCA Mini-Course): Discover essential gear and gadgets. The Aftermath: Understand the potential consequences of using a firearm in self-defense. Drawing Your Firearm: Practice safe and effective drawing techniques. Common Semi-automatic Handgun Malfunctions: Identify and resolve common malfunctions. Ammunition Malfunctions: Handle different types of ammunition malfunctions. What to Expect At The Range: Prepare for your range experience. Traveling With Your Firearm: Learn best practices for traveling with your firearm.
Day 2: Classroom Instruction and Range Time (5 Hours Classroom, 3 Hours Range Time)
Videos of WCHP Incidents: Analyze real-world incidents. Preparing for your Permit: Learn the steps for obtaining or renewing your permit. The Legal Use of Force (USCCA Mini-Course): Explore the legal aspects of using force. Case Law: Review important case law. MD WCHP Common Questions: Address frequently asked questions. MD WCHP Application: Get detailed guidance on the application process. MD WCHP Renewal: Understand the renewal requirements. Live Fire Qualification: Demonstrate your shooting proficiency. Additional Resources: Access a wealth of supportive materials.
What to Bring:
- Reliable semi-automatic pistol in a standard caliber (22LR, 380 ACP, 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP)
- Minimum of 2 magazines 200 rounds of factory new, non-hollow point ammunition (FMJ/TMJ/coated ammunition is fine). No remanufactured or reloaded ammunition. Sturdy belt Safe, durable holster (discussion point) Lunch (45-minute break on both days) Water Notebook and pens/pencils Appropriate attire for farm range conditions Sunscreen Good attitude and willingness to learn

Note:
If you currently conceal and carry a firearm, it must be stored correctly in a case separate from ammunition immediately upon arrival. Firearms are allowed in class, but any ammunition is prohibited until qualification time. Failure to follow these rules may result in immediate removal from the course.
When Should I Renew?
The initial Handgun Permit expires on the last day of the holder's birth month, two (2) years after the permit's issue date. Modified or duplicate permits expire on the date of the initial permit.
Renewal permits are valid for successive periods of three (3) years each, provided the applicant meets the qualifications and pays the renewal fee.
Renewal is the permit holder's responsibility and should be initiated at least 90 business days before expiration. The Licensing Portal sends renewal reminders only for online submissions. Notify the Licensing Division of address changes within 30 days in writing.

Mandatory Assessments:
To receive credit for the course, two assessments are required:
Pre-Class Assessment: Conducted before classes begin to gauge your current knowledge. Post-Class Assessment: Taken after the class to evaluate your understanding of the material. Both assessments must be completed to earn credit for the class but are not required to start filling out your permit.
Cancellation / Refund Policy:
Refunds are only issued if we cancel a class. If a patron cannot attend the scheduled class, they will receive full credit for another class of comparable value. No-shows without prior notice will not receive credit.

Walk into any gun shop, and the variety of gear and gadgets available can be a bit overwhelming. Gun vaults, holsters, lights, lasers—where do you start? In this lesson, Michael Martin will explain each of those pieces of gear, and he’ll discuss the options you should consider when you’re ready to go shopping.

The Licensing Portal will only send renewal reminders for Wear and Carry permit applications submitted through the online portal. It is the permit holder's responsibility to notify the Licensing Division of address changes, in writing, within 30 days of any change. You must mail this change to the same address as you would mail an application.
