My Biography
As a retired Law Enforcement Officer, I’ve dedicated my life to protecting others—both in uniform and beyond. Following my service in law enforcement, I continued that mission by managing Property and Evidence for a city police department and working as a Technician and Sales Representative for a security systems company. In those roles, I helped secure homes, businesses, and government facilities across our community.
Driven by a deep passion for personal safety and empowerment, I transitioned into firearms instruction and home defense training. I firmly believe every law-abiding citizen has both the right and the responsibility to be their own first line of defense. My goal is to provide students with real-world knowledge, confidence, and practical skills they can rely on when it matters most.
Through Bennett Defense, I offer professional, approachable training designed to prepare everyday people—not just for the range, but for life.

Basic Handgun fundamentals and MD HQL requirements. This class is designed to cover all aspects to exceed Maryland State requirements to obtain a HQL (Handgun Qualification License) with the State of Maryland.
This Class exceeds all Maryland standards of training and certification to apply for a Maryland Wear and carry permit and MD HQL . Classroom portions will consist of Home defense and concealed carry fundamentals as well as Maryland's legal supplements pertaining to wear and carry. This class will also provide you with the steps to apply to other states for their concealed carry permits to expand your carry locations.
If you do not own a firearm to qualify with, there will be ones available to us for the qualification. please reach out in advance to confirm.
Taking this class does not guarantee approval from the state or states for concealed carry or HQL, it only satisfies the training/range qualification requirement set forth by Maryland state for your application. Fingerprints and application fees are not included with this class.
An email will be sent to all registered students once the class has been closed or the beginning of the week prior to said class.
This class will go over current laws and concealed carry fundamentals as well as complete the MD Wear and Carry Shooting Qualification. This class exceeds MD standards for your Carry permit renewal in the state for the state.
This is a hands on range class that will develop and work on proficiency with a firearm. We will measure preformance to acheive your Training goals. Sessions are based in hour increments and can be tailored to you indiviual needs and time. Self Defense, Marksmanship, and Firearms fundamentals can all be worked on. Drills, lessons and training programs will vary per person and skill level. Contact me for more details or to schedule private training.

Conserve Ammo: Discover how to get more out of 50 rounds than most people get out of 200. Track Your Progress: Use innovative, scalable scoresheets that grow with your skill level, letting you see exactly how you're improving over time. Maintain Proficiency: Master the "Pistol Practice Way" to ensure your skills don't perish between range visits.
Note: Every student receives their own spiral-bound copy of the Pistol Practice range manual ($30 value) to keep in their range bag for all future practice sessions. Class registration also includes 1, 50 box of 9mm target ammo and all range fees included ($40 value).
