Foundations of the Handgun: Professional Introduction & Skills ​Whether you are a first-time owner or looking to build a rock-solid foundation for personal defense, this course is designed to bridge the gap between "owning a gun" and "operating a firearm." This class is a required prerequisite for our Iowa Concealed Handgun (CHP) certification course, ensuring every student has the mechanical proficiency needed for advanced carry training. ​Experience a focused day of instruction on our peaceful, scenic farm range, where we strip away the noise and focus on the core essentials of marksmanship. ​What We Will Cover: ​The Universal Rules of Safety: Comprehensive handling protocols that become second nature. ​Anatomy of the Pistol: Understanding the mechanical function, nomenclature, and maintenance of modern handguns. ​The "Final Three" Fundamentals: Mastering the critical interface between shooter and tool: Grip, Stance, and Trigger Press. ​Sight Alignment & Picture: Learning how to track your sights and achieve consistent accuracy. ​Selection for Self-Defense: A practical guide to choosing a pistol that fits your hand, your lifestyle, and your defensive needs. ​Range Drills: Structured live-fire exercises to build muscle memory and confidence. ​Course Requirements: ​A reliable handgun (rentals may be available upon prior request). ​50–100 rounds of factory-fresh ammunition. ​Eye and ear protection. ​A sturdy belt and comfortable outdoor clothing. ​Note: This course focuses on the mechanics of shooting. Completion provides the necessary skills to move into our legal and tactical Concealed Carry curriculum.
