What You'll Learn
This hands-on course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to provide lifesaving care in the critical moments before EMS arrives. Led by Coach Marty Martin the class emphasizes effective trauma response with a focus on gunshot wound (GSW) treatment and other severe injuries. Participants will work directly with professional training aids—including gauze, bandages, tourniquets, chest seals, and hemostatic agents—while developing confidence in their ability to assess, prioritize, and treat traumatic injuries. Key Learning Areas: • Understanding Trauma: Definition of traumatic injuries, types of injuries, and their immediate impact. • Scene Safety & Security: Evaluating the incident area for threats while protecting yourself and others. • Triage & Body Scans: Performing systematic body scans, categorizing injury severity, and establishing a triage plan. • The ABCs of Trauma Care: Airway, Breathing, and Circulation—critical steps in lifesaving intervention. • Segmented Assessment: Learning to evaluate the body in sections to guide proper treatment. • Hands-On Training: Application of bandages, tourniquets, chest seals, and hemostatic agents for various injuries. • Burns & Head Injuries: Identifying burn categories, concussion protocols, and proper treatment approaches. • Shock Management: Recognizing, monitoring, and responding to signs of shock throughout care.
