My Biography
Floods, fires, fugitives, and foolishness make for an interesting career!
Dan Rieves spent 30 years as a Law Enforcement Ranger and District Manager and firearms instructor in Colorado for Larimer County and Colorado State Parks, working alongside some of the bravest first responders in the country. Dan primarily worked in water-based recreation areas along the urban-rural interface of the Front Range of northern Colorado. The day-to-day challenges of the job were frequently dynamic.
Dan’s ranger crews also assisted with some of the most trying natural disasters in Colorado history: The 2012 High Park Fire, the 2013 Big Thompson Flood, the 200,000-acre 2020 Cameron Peak Fire, and the 2021 Kruger Rock Fire all affected park areas managed by Larimer County.
Since his retirement, Dan has embarked on the "give-back" phase of his career: Sharing what 30 years as a park ranger taught him about doing courageous work, forging teams, defending work culture and honing personal resilience and personal safety through training.
