What You'll Learn
Emergency Medical Fundamentals equips students with the essential skills and confidence needed to respond effectively in medical and trauma emergencies until professional help arrives. Rooted in the USCCA’s proven first-aid curriculum, this class goes beyond basic CPR by offering practical, scenario-based instruction on life-saving techniques for both everyday and high-stress situations. You’ll learn to assess patients, stop severe bleeding, manage compromised airways, and support victims of medical crises — empowering you to act decisively when seconds count.
Whether you’re a gun owner, caregiver, outdoor enthusiast, or someone who simply wants to be prepared, Emergency Medical Fundamentals bridges the crucial gap between injury and advanced medical care. Through a mix of discussion, hands-on drills, and real-world scenarios, this course builds your ability to remain calm, make critical decisions, and deliver purposeful aid.
Who This Class Is For: This training is designed for responsible adults of all backgrounds — from those new to emergency care to students seeking practical readiness skills. No prior medical certification or experience is required; the course is ideal for caregivers, parents, outdoor adventurers, firearm owners, security professionals, and anyone who wants to confidently help their loved ones or community in a crisis.
What You’ll Learn: • Comprehensive patient and scene assessment — how to quickly identify life threats and prioritize care. • Techniques to control severe bleeding, including tourniquet application and wound packing. • Airway management and strategies to recognize and respond to compromised breathing. • Approaches for traumatic injuries, including broken bones, burns, head and spinal trauma. • Handling medical emergencies such as heart attacks, seizures, strokes, and shock. • Building and organizing personal first-aid and trauma kits tailored to your environment and needs.
Cancellation Policy: Students are required to cancel at least 48 hours in advance of a class date in order to receive a full refund. Classes cancelled less than 48 hours before the class will not be refunded.
What We'll Teach
Traumatic Emergencies
Severe traumatic injuries result from forces as everyday as a serious fall or automobile accident, to forces as unthinkable as a shooting or stabbing as the result of an assault or robbery. This lesson will address the assessment and treatment for a number of trauma emergencies including severe bleeding, a penetrating chest injury, flail chest, severe burns, musculoskeletal trauma (injury to the bones, muscles, ligaments or tendons) and trauma to the head and eye.
Additional Notes from Your Instructor
For those also interested in gaining CPR certification or renewal, this is an afternoon class that follows a separate Red Cross CPR class taught in the morning.
