What You'll Learn

Due to changes in California law, beginning 1 January 2024 the state requires 16 hours (2 days) of training to obtain a California CCW license. This class meets the classroom requirement for day one of the 16 hour Initial CCW training as well as the classroom requirement for the 8 hour CCW Renewal. The shooting qualification for renewals as well as day two for initials should be scheduled separately through CCW USA upon completion of this course.

The California CCW Renewal / Initial License Day One class will include and cover the following:

• Basic handgun safety and operation • Equipment such as holsters, gun belts, and mag pouches • Everyday carry considerations including what additional items to carry, carry methods, clothing, and dealing with family and friends, and much more • Situational awareness and how to avoid being selected by a criminal • Non-lethal defensive options if you are selected by a criminal • When is deadly force justified • Your role as a legally armed citizen • California laws regarding concealed carry and use of deadly force • What to expect if you’re involved in a self-defense incident and interacting with police and the aftermath • Mindset - Successful use of force up to and including deadly force requires a certain mindset • Training - What to train, how to train, why to train • Legal Considerations - Surviving the legal fight • Mental health considerations and firearms • Defensive incident analysis and image based drills

The California CCW Renewal / Initial Permit Day One – Class Description

The California CCW Renewal / Initial License Day One class is intended for anyone wishing to obtain their initial California Concealed Carry Weapons license or to renew their existing CCW license. As a new concealed carrier, you’ll be faced with numerous decisions regarding equipment like holsters, belts, mag pouches and whether to carry other gear such as a tourniquet, IFAK, flashlight, etc. You’ll need to figure out your carry method, clothing, and how to handle the subject of concealed carry with family, friends, and colleagues. You’ll need to be very familiar with laws regarding CCW and use of force and how to be “situationally aware” to avoid violent encounters. You’ll need to embrace training and develop the mindset to prevail should you face a violent predator and to win the likely legal fight that follows. The California CCW Renewal / Initial Permit Day One class will address these topics and much more. This 8-hour class will meet the requirements for the first day of required training needed to obtain your California CCW license as well as the classroom training required to renew an existing CCW.

What to bring: We'll be spending the entire day in the classroom so no range gear is necessary. All classroom materials will be provided along with bottled water. Students should feel free to bring coffee or snacks. We'll break for lunch around 11:30 and there are numerous places to purchase food nearby.

Cancellation Policy: Students are required to cancel at least 48 hours in advance of a class date in order to receive a full refund. Classes cancelled less than 48 hours before the class will not be refunded.

"Joe is an outstanding in-class instructor. He provided plenty of real-world vignettes and videos that drove home the importance of having a concealed carry license and being effective at using your weapon. "
