LEOSA Qualification (HR218) For Retired Law-Enforcement Officers Only under Title 18 USC 926C aka the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA). With your retired Officer ID card, you must qualify once each year.
(1) A photographic identification issued by the agency from which the individual separated from service as a law enforcement officer that indicates that the individual has, not less recently than one year before the date the individual is carrying the concealed firearm, been tested or otherwise found by the agency to meet the active duty standards for qualification in firearms training as established by the agency to carry a firearm of the same type as the concealed firearm; or
(2)(A) A photographic identification issued by the agency from which the individual separated from service as a law enforcement officer; and
(B) A certification issued by the State in which the individual resides or by a certified firearms instructor that is qualified to conduct a firearms qualification test for active-duty officers within that State that indicates that the individual has, not less than 1 year before the date the individual is carrying the concealed firearm, been tested or otherwise found by the State or a certified firearms instructor that is qualified to conduct a firearms qualification test for active-duty officers within that State to have met—
(I) the active duty standards for qualification in firearms training, as established by the State, to carry a firearm of the same type as the concealed firearm; or
(II) if the State has not established such standards, standards set by any law enforcement agency within that State to carry a firearm of the same type as the concealed firearm.
We will issue you a card to keep with your retirement ID that states that we qualified you on the range in accordance with LEOSA requirements for the annual qualification.
Our default qualification is the standard off-duty/backup qualification used by most agencies. However, if your former agency has a specific qualification they prefer, please let us know and we’re happy to accommodate.
How to Get Your LEOSA Qualification As far as where to go and when to go there, we have two options for you:
Option A) Attend one of our Proficient Shooter clinics – it’s 2 hours of shooting (including holster work and reloads) with an instructor from the Sheriff’s range. Stuff you can’t do at a typical range because they won’t let you. Clinics are $95, including the range fees, and you’ll burn through 100-200 rounds – they vary. We make them a little different each time.
To sign up: Sign up by going to the Proficient Shooter Program, locate the next scheduled clinic, select the date you would like to attend then press “add to cart’. When you complete the checkout process, please be sure to include “LEOSA Qualification” in the notes so we can be prepared for you. Once we receive your registration, we’ll email you a confirmation with directions and instructions.
Option B) Just come out and qualify – no training, no practice. Bing Bang Boom, In and out. $75 – that includes the range fee that we have to pay on your behalf, picking up your brass, compensating the instructor, helping pay for the insurance, maintaining our certifications for these, and all the stuff that goes with doing this for you annually. You do that on days we have a Basic Handgun Class. The schedule is here, so you can see what dates are available.
To sign up: Sign up by going selecting “add to cart” above. But before you do that, go to the class schedule page and select the date you would like to attend under the Basic Handgun class. When you complete the checkout process, please be sure to include “LEOSA Qualification” and the date of the Basic class you would like to attend in the notes. Once we receive your registration, we’ll email you a confirmation with directions and instructions.
Cancellation Policy: Inland Training Class Refund Policy Inland Training limits our class sizes to provide an unparalleled and individualized experience for each of our students. To do this we require prepayment and preregistration for all Inland Training classes and courses. To provide our classes, we must commit resources, assign instructors, arrange classroom/range availability, and incur other costs associated with the class. These commitments are not reduced when fewer students unexpectedly attend. Additionally, we many times do not have space for everyone that may want to participate in a scheduled session and therefore must turn away students who wish to sign up. The weather may also be a factor that is uncontrollable by Inland Training and the session may need to be canceled and rescheduled. We understand that life has ups and downs. We also understand that a student may need to transfer from one class date to another. We hope you; our student understands that we have expenses based on class size as well. With 48 hours’ notice, we can make other arrangements. Therefore, please see our Reschedule/Refund policy below: Students are required to notify Inland Training at least 48 hours in advance of a class date in order to transfer to another class date. Students may transfer to another Class Date, or have their funds held until they can reschedule to a more convenient class date. Students may transfer as often as they wish. Due to our liberal re-schedule policy Inland Training does not issue refunds. We appreciate your understanding and the reason behind this policy. Registering for a class and paying for a session means that you fully understand and accept Inland Training’s Reschedule/Refund policy. Thank you.
