What You'll Learn
Defensive Handgun 1 builds on the fundamentals learned in the Intro course, moving students into practical defensive applications. This class introduces identifying and clearing malfunctions, tactical and emergency reloading drills, balancing speed and accuracy while shooting, introduction to close contact defensive shooting, flash sight picture, and firing from retention. Students will begin developing the confidence and competence needed to apply foundational skills in real-world scenarios.
Cancellation Policy: All class registrations are final. Refunds are only considered for verified emergencies, such as medical emergencies, hospitalization, or death in the family. Documentation may be requested. For non-emergency situations, students may receive a one-time class credit toward a future class if they notify HDG at least 48 hours in advance. Credits must be used within 90 days and are generally non-transferable. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice, or failure to attend, result in forfeiture of the class fee unless it qualifies as a verified emergency. If HDG cancels a class, students will receive either a free transfer to the next class or a full refund. By registering, students agree to these terms.
What We'll Teach
Defensive Shooting Fundamentals
This lesson will continue with the basics, including a very visual overview of what we call the “building blocks” or the fundamentals for accurate and safe shooting. Within this lesson, Michael Martin will explain the differences between the skills required for being a good “marksman” at the range, and the skills that might be required to save your life if you are ever the subject of a violent attack.
