This 5-day (44-hour) instructor development program trains and certifies qualified law enforcement, military, and armed security professionals as NRA Law Enforcement Patrol Rifle Instructors—a nationally recognized credential in firearms instructor development.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents who can legally possess firearms and ammunition, and meet one of the following criteria:
Sworn Law Enforcement Officer (active, reserve, or part-time with at least 3 years of experience)Retired or Former Sworn Officer (with at least 3 years of experience)Licensed Armed Private Security Officer (with at least 3 years of experience)Member of an NRA Law Enforcement “Enrolled Agency” (with at least 3 years of experience)Member of the U.S. Armed Forces (letter of support required from command)Full-Time Civilian Firearm Instructor (employed by a law enforcement agency)Full-Time Civilian Contractor (engaged in a verified GSA contract supporting firearms or armed protection training)
Documentation verifying eligibility must accompany your application.
Registration confirmation from NRA Law Enforcement Division is required prior to attendance.
Course Overview
Students will complete 44 hours of intensive firearms instructor development including:
• Marksmanship analysis and diagnostic coaching
• Instructional methodology and remedial training techniques
• Policy considerations, safety standards, and liability issues
• Practical range exercises and qualification courses
Graduates will earn certification as NRA Law Enforcement Patrol Rifle Instructors, recognized nationwide and eligible for NRA Law Enforcement Continuing Education Credits.
Physical & Safety Standards
All participants must be physically capable of safely completing all range drills with both the right and left hands.
Safety is our top priority—violations will result in immediate dismissal.
English fluency (spoken, read, and written) is required.
Required Equipment
Duty-type, law enforcement patrol rifle (rifle or pistol caliber is acceptable) equipped with a sling At least three rifle magazines with a capacity of 20 rounds or more 1,200 rounds of duty or training rifle ammunition 100 rounds of duty or training handgun ammunition Shooting mat or waterproof ground cover for prone zeroing exercises .
Registration
Applicants must submit the NRA Law Enforcement Instructor School Application with all supporting documentation directly to the NRA Law Enforcement Division.
Cancellation Policy: Guardian Cancellation Policy: Due to limited seating, Guardian Training & Consulting requests that the student/client cancel at least 24 hours prior to a scheduled class. This gives Guardian Training & Consulting the opportunity to fill the class. The student/client may cancel by email or online here. If the student/client must cancel their class, Guardian Training & Consulting offers the student/client a credit to their account if they cancel prior to the 24 hours. Guardian Training & Consulting does not offer refunds as a regular practice. The student/client may use these credits towards any future classes within 180 days of the class they cancelled. After 180 days, the tuition and credit for future classes will be forfeited. There are certain exceptions to this policy on a case-by-case basis as determined by Guardian Training & Consulting. If there is no notice prior to the start of the class or lesson, the student/client agrees to forfeit all tuition and no credits for future classes will be honored.
