Rocky Road: Texas Cyclists Defend Against Motorist Assault
A Houston couple were riding bicycles when a driver pulled up and told them they could not be riding in that area. The motorist drove off but returned a few minutes later and used his vehicle to hit the woman, knocking her off her bike. The woman’s male companion used a gun he carried to fire on the driver in defense of himself and his companion, hitting the driver twice and stopping the attack. Responding police arrested the attacking motorist for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Maine Man Defends Against Knife Attack
A man got into an argument with a Somerville resident, who drew a knife and stabbed him. The wounded man drew a pistol and fired on his attacker, causing him to flee. The attacker later died of his injuries. The Maine State Police will consult with the attorney general regarding whether to charge the shooter.

Florida Homeowner Shoots Car Thief
A Cantonment homeowner heard noises outside his home at around 3 a.m. Arming himself with a handgun before investigating, he found a man inside his vehicle and ordered the man out of the car. The thief then tackled the homeowner. In the ensuing scuffle, the attacker was shot several times and fled the scene. Responding police found the perpetrator in a nearby wooded area, wounded in the legs and abdomen. He was arrested on several felony charges after his release from the hospital. The county sheriff said the defending homeowner would not be charged for defending himself.

West Virginia Family Defends Against Home Invaders
Two men, one of whom was armed with an ax handle, broke into the home of a Berkeley Springs family at around 6:30 a.m. In the ensuing melee, the homeowner and his mother were assaulted with the ax handle, the homeowner suffering a fractured skull. The victim’s mother took up a rifle and fired on the intruders, putting them to flight. One burglar was later arrested at his home by responding police, while the second is being sought on an arrest warrant stemming from his involvement in the incident.

Pennsylvania Argument Over Car Leads to Domestic Violence
A Mount Oliver woman had her car damaged by her ex-boyfriend at roughly 9 a.m. The incident led to the ex-boyfriend trying to force his way into the woman’s apartment. He was stopped in his break-in attempt by a young man who was a friend of the woman. The friend shot the intruder in the leg, causing him to flee. Investigating police were able to apprehend the intruder nearby and arrest him. Police are working with local prosecutors to determine what, if any, charges will be filed.

Georgia Delivery Driver Shoots Knife-Armed Robber
When a Brunswick pizza-delivery man arrived to a vacant mobile home to deliver a pizza at around 11 p.m., a man armed with a knife confronted him and demanded money. The driver pulled his handgun and shot the robber, who died at the scene. No charges will be filed against the pizza driver, who was defending himself, and so far there is no word from the corporate pizza chain about whether the driver will face termination.
