USCCA Statement on New FBI Crime Report

Report Gives Even More Evidence that Gun-Control Laws Do Not Help Prevent Crime

WEST BEND, WI – Tim Schmidt, President and Founder of the U.S. Concealed Carry Association, today made the following statement regarding the FBI’s new report on violent crime:

“The report released by the FBI today offers more evidence that even as the government has stepped up their efforts to restrict Americans’ Second Amendment rights, criminals pay no attention to stricter gun-control laws,” said Tim Schmidt, President and Founder of the United States Concealed Carry Association. “Ultimately, what happens is that only law-abiding citizens pay attention to them. What these laws create is an increased number of innocent people who are now soft targets for criminals who do not follow the law.  That’s why it shouldn’t surprise anyone that in big cities like Chicago, which have some of the country’s most restrictive gun laws, violence is actually on the rise.”

“More and more responsible Americans are choosing to protect themselves with concealed carry permits because they want their families and neighbors to be safe and secure.  This is particularly important in the face of an increase in violent crime and the increased probability that the government will continue to limit citizens’ right to carry a firearm,” Schmidt concluded.

BACKGROUND:
