USCCA Curriculum Recognized Under Virginia State Law
West Bend, WI – The U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA), a national training organization offering world class firearms training and education, applauds Governor Glenn Youngkin’s recent signing of SB 989 and HB 1422, with broad bipartisan support. This legislation increases the firearms education and training available, and makes it more accessible through the recognition of the USCCA’s training curriculum and certified instructors program under Virginia law.
“On behalf of all responsible, gun-owning Virginia residents, the USCCA applauds the signing of this legislation recognizing the USCCA curriculum. This legislation allows citizens a wider choice in where they access their firearms training and increases its accessibility across the state,” said Katie Pointer Baney, Managing Director of Government Affairs for the USCCA.
Effective July 1, 2023, the USCCA’s rigorous certification process will be recognized by the state, allowing courses taught by USCCA instructors to be sufficient for Virginians to practice their right to self-defense without instructors needing additional certifications through the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) or the National Rifle Association (NRA).
”Responsible gun owners recognize that it is their responsibility to seek out firearms education and training. At the same time, states are responsible to gun owners to continually review the red tape and restrictions previously placed on the permitting process, and enact laws that make it easier for law-abiding citizen to protect themselves. With hundreds of instructors across Virginia, the USCCA looks forward to working with Virginians as they exercise their Second Amendment right under Virginia law,” concluded Baney.
