West Bend, WI – As the Florida Legislature convenes for a Special Session beginning today, the U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA), which has more than 650,000 members nationwide and more than 60,000 members in Florida alone, is encouraging the passage of constitutional carry legislation to protect Floridians.
USCCA President and Founder Tim Schmidt recently sent a letter to Gov. Ron DeSantis on behalf of USCCA Members in Florida, thanking him for reaffirming his support for constitutional carry and advocating for the passage of this legislation in the state. It would allow responsibly armed residents to carry a concealed handgun without first having to obtain a permit and would make Florida the 26th state to pass a constitutional carry law.
“Simply put, law-abiding American gun owners shouldn’t need to ask the government’s permission to exercise a constitutional right,” said Schmidt. “We support the passage of constitutional carry laws taking place across the nation, and the USCCA remains dedicated to educating Americans on the importance of firearms education and training as they exercise their Second Amendment rights.”
The USCCA has seen increased demand for firearms safety and training courses as millions of new gun owners across the country are taking responsibility for their own safety. Legal firearms sales have passed 1.25 million per month for 33 months straight. According to the FBI’s report on firearm purchase background checks, this marks the highest era of gun purchases to date.
“We are hopeful that under Gov. DeSantis’ leadership, the Florida Legislature will get this done and usher in an even stronger future for Second Amendment rights in Florida,” Schmidt concluded.
