Tim Schmidt Applauds South Dakota’s Constitutional Carry Bill
South Dakota Passes Constitutional Carry Bill Allowing Residents To Carry Concealed Handguns Without A Permit
West Bend, WI –
The President and Founder of the U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) Tim Schmidt today praised the South Dakota State Legislature for passing “Constitutional carry” legislation that would allow South Dakota residents to carry concealed handguns without a permit and he encouraged Governor Kristi Noem to quickly sign it into law.
Reforms That Honor Our Constitution
An article published by the Argus Leader featured a statement from Schmidt that said, “Constitutional carry reforms that honor the intentions of our country’s most important document are a signal of a movement that citizens of the United States want a return to the basic freedoms guaranteed to them, without government interference.”
Schmidt went on to say, “Constitutional carry is about cutting the red tape away from responsible gun ownership and recognizing that the natural born right to self-defense is affirmed by the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.”
“More and more states like South Dakota are looking at implementing constitutional carry laws so that gun owners can freely exercise their natural right to defend themselves without needing a special piece of paper from the government. We do not need permission to exercise our freedom of speech, have due process rights, or practice the religion of our choosing. Why then, should we be compelled to wade through additional bureaucracy only for the 2nd Amendment?” said Schmidt.
On Jan. 31st, 2019 Governor Kristi Noem (R) signed the law allowing South Dakota residents to carry concealed handguns without a permit. The law will go into effect July 1, 2019 making South Dakota the 14th state to allow constitutional carry.
