WEST BEND, WI – The U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) today released a statement after the ninth consecutive month in a row of record firearms-related background checks, with September hitting more than 2,892,000 new checks. This means that background checks for this year have now surpassed the 2019 record — and with three months of 2020 still remaining. In only nine months, the FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System conducted 28,826,449 background checks compared to 28,369,750 in all of 2019.
The USCCA, which has experienced record membership growth this year, is the largest and fastest-growing organization in the country, providing industry-leading self-defense education and training for responsible American gun owners. USCCA President and Founder Tim Schmidt released the following statement in response to this unprecedented growth:
“Throughout the pandemic, ongoing civil unrest across the nation and a pending presidential election, it’s clear that Americans are engaging in their Second Amendment rights unlike ever before. It’s clear that no one wants to be caught in a situation without knowing how to defend themselves or their loved ones. Not only did we see another month of record firearms-related background checks, but September has now broken the entire annual record from last year. And it’s even more encouraging to see such interest in self-defense education and training.”
