This 2-Day Beginner Handgun Orientation & Safety Class is designed for new and returning shooters who want clear instruction, hands-on learning, and guided live-fire experience in a safe, supportive environment.

No prior experience required.

Day 1: Classroom Instruction (Approx. 3.5 Hours)

This is a classroom-based session where I cover the essential knowledge every responsible firearm owner should have, including:

• Firearm types and basic components

• Core firearm safety rules

• Proper grip, stance, and trigger control

• Dry-fire practice (no live ammunition)

• Loading and unloading procedures

• Aiming fundamentals and accuracy basics

• Firearm laws and legal responsibilities

• Safe storage, transportation, and home safety considerations

What to bring: Notebook and pen — all training equipment is provided.

Day 2: Live Fire Range Training (1 Hour)

This takes place at Smokin’ Barrel Range (Simi Valley, CA) and focuses on applying what you learned in a live-fire setting under my direct supervision.

During this session, you’ll work on:

• Range safety and etiquette

• Proper grip, stance, and firearm control

• Safe loading and unloading

• Aiming and accuracy

• Supervised live-fire target practice

I provide one-on-one coaching and necessary equipment throughout the session to help you focus on learning, safety, and skill development, building confidence while maintaining a safe, controlled environment.

You may bring your own unloaded firearm if you prefer. Firearms must arrive unloaded and will be inspected by me prior to use.

Safety Arms LLC is an authorized firearms training provider with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) for California Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) training.

This 16-hour course is designed to meet the training requirements established under California Penal Code Section 26165 and the requirements of the Los Angeles Police Department for initial CCW applicants.

• 9 hours of in-person/Live/Interactive Training • 3 hours allotted for you to complete the open-book/written test • 4 hours allotted to complete the range certification.

The classroom portion is designed to be informative and interactive. 16-Hour Initial CCW Training

The initial California CCW course consists of the required 16 hours of training, including classroom instruction, required testing, firearms handling, live-fire instruction, and shooting proficiency qualification.

Day 1 – Classroom Training: Classroom instruction covering firearm safety, firearm handling, California CCW laws, permissible use of force, concealed carry responsibilities, situational awareness, de-escalation, and other required course material.

Day 2 – Range Training and Qualification: Live-fire instruction, firearm handling, marksmanship, safety evaluation, and completion of the required LAPD Shooting Proficiency Standards.

Students must successfully complete all required portions of the course before receiving their Safety Arms LLC Certificate of Completion.

LAPD Shooting Proficiency Qualification:

Students applying through the Los Angeles Police Department must successfully complete the LAPD Shooting Proficiency Standards with each handgun they intend to have listed on their CCW license.

Primary / First Firearm:

• Required target: NRA Standard B-27 target • Total rounds: 72 • 3 yards – 24 rounds • 5 yards – 24 rounds • 7 yards – 24 rounds • No time limitation • Minimum passing score: 70% at each distance • At least 17 of 24 rounds at each distance must score within the 7-ring of the B-27 target

During the qualification, the student must also demonstrate the ability to safely load, unload, and reload the handgun.

Additional Firearms:

For each additional firearm being qualified:

• Total rounds: 20 • 5 yards – 10 rounds • 7 yards – 10 rounds • Minimum passing score: 70% at each distance • At least 7 of 10 rounds at each distance must score within the 7-ring of the B-27 target

Each firearm used for qualification will be inspected to ensure that it is safe, operable, and compliant with applicable state and federal laws.

Students are responsible for following all instructions and requirements established by their individual issuing agency.

Range training and qualification are conducted on Day 2.

Students will receive information regarding required firearms, ammunition, equipment, range fees, and other range-day requirements before attending the live-fire portion of the course.

Important

Students applying for an LAPD CCW should follow the instructions provided by the LAPD CCW Unit regarding when they are authorized to complete their firearms training.

Students should not complete CCW training prematurely if their issuing agency requires them to receive authorization before beginning the training process.

The Safety Arms LLC renewal course consists of 8 hours of required training, including:

• 5 hours of in-person, live, interactive classroom training • 1 hour allotted for completion of the required open-book/written examination • 2 hours allotted for live-fire training and range qualification

Students must successfully complete all required portions of the course before receiving their Safety Arms LLC Certificate of Completion.

LAPD Shooting Proficiency Qualification:

Students renewing through the Los Angeles Police Department must successfully demonstrate shooting proficiency with each handgun they intend to have listed on their CCW license.

Students pay the required government fees directly through the official state application and fingerprint processing procedures.

Fingerprinting Requirements

Arizona: Students complete electronic fingerprinting through Arizona's designated fingerprinting provider after submitting their online applications.

Florida: Students obtain the required fingerprint card through a law enforcement agency and submit it according to Florida's instructions.

Fingerprinting is not performed during the workshop. Any additional fingerprinting service fees are the student's responsibility.
