What You'll Learn

Alaska Concealed Handgun Permit Course

Two-Day Course Thursday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM Friday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Successfully completing this State of Alaska-approved course satisfies the training requirement to apply for an Alaska Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP).

This comprehensive 12-hour course combines classroom instruction, live-fire range training, and immersive decision-making exercises using Alaska's only civilian-accessible firearms training simulator.

Course Topics

During the classroom portion, students will learn:

Alaska Use of Force Laws Justifiable use of deadly force for self-defense Legal interpretation of Alaska statutes through real-world case studies Firearm safety fundamentals Safe firearm handling techniques Defensive handgun concepts Drawing safely from a strong-side hip holster

The live-fire range portion allows students to practice the skills learned in class and includes the required State of Alaska shooting qualification.

Students will also complete a written examination to demonstrate their understanding of the course material.

Exclusive Firearms Training Simulator

Point Blank is proud to offer the only firearms training simulator in Alaska available to civilians, private organizations, government agencies, and law enforcement.

Our Concealed Handgun Permit Course includes simulator training that places students in realistic self-defense scenarios, helping develop sound judgment, decision-making, and legal awareness in situations that cannot be safely recreated on the live-fire range.

Course Details

Duration: 12 hours (State of Alaska requirement)

Course Fee:

Regular Price: $250 Private Class Discount: $200

Point Blank is an approved State of Alaska provider for concealed handgun permit fingerprinting and photographs.

Students may complete both services during class.

Cancellation

A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your seat.

Refunds

The remaining balance may be refunded according to our cancellation policy.

No-Show Policy

Students who fail to attend without providing at least 72 hours' notice will forfeit all registration fees.

Class size is limited. Early registration is recommended.

Prerequisites

Students must:

Be at least 21 years old Be legally eligible to possess a firearm Not have a felony conviction Required Equipment

Please bring:

Semi-automatic pistol (9mm or larger) Two magazines (minimum 7-round capacity) Sturdy gun belt Quality Kydex, polymer, or other rigid strong-side hip holster Magazine pouch worn on the support-hand side 50 rounds of factory ammunition Eye protection Hearing protection (electronic earmuffs recommended) Snacks and beverages for breaks Holster Requirements

Your holster must:

Be firearm-specific Allow one-handed re-holstering Be worn on the strong-side hip

The instructor has final approval of all equipment.

The following holsters are not permitted in this course:

Appendix carry Cross-draw Serpa holsters Shoulder holsters Bra holsters Soft or collapsible holsters Ankle holsters Behind-the-back holsters Off-body carry (purses, bags, backpacks, etc.)

These carry methods may be addressed only in advanced courses.

What to Wear

Please wear range-appropriate clothing, including:

Long pants Closed-toe shoes High-collared shirt Brimmed baseball cap (recommended) Safety

A firearm and equipment inspection will be conducted before training begins.

Please arrive with your firearm:

Unloaded Cased Do not handle your firearm until instructed by the course staff.

If you are new to handguns, this is a great introduction to everything you need to know to start your self-protection journey.

This course is a complete guide to understanding the basics of firearms ownership, safety, and nomenclature, and how it applies to home- or self-defense. After this class, students will feel confident to act as their family’s first line of defense in the event of a home invasion or other critical incident.

Additional Notes from Your Instructor

If you need a holster for class, Point Blank manufactures custom Kydex holsters molded specifically to your handgun. Student Special: Custom holsters are available for $75 and can be built to your preferred carry configuration. Most holsters are completed in approximately 25 minutes, so you'll have a properly fitted holster ready before training begins. Call 907-745-1133 to set up an appointment.
