In June 2017, U.S. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise’s life drastically changed when a shooter ambushed him and several of his Republican colleagues during the last practice before the annual Congressional Baseball Game. The assailant shot Rep. Scalise, who was on second base, in the hip, causing him to collapse. All the representative from Louisiana could do was lie there in the dirt and pray. Capitol Police eventually brought down the gunman. Fortunately, all five wounded individuals recovered. This harrowing experience strengthened Rep. Scalise’s views on the Second Amendment and self-defense. Tune in as he sits down with USCCA President and Founder Tim Schmidt to discuss the incident, his views on gun rights and much more.
