USCCA Outlines Strong Support for Floridians’ Right to Self Defense

West Bend, WI – The U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA), which has over 70,000 members in Florida alone, today sent a letter to leaders of the Florida Legislature and Governor Ron DeSantis on Florida House Bill 543 and Senate Bill 150, which are both pending in their respective chambers of the Florida Legislature. The letter outlines the USCCA’s strong support for constitutional carry, highlights its members commitment to firearms education and training, and urges the swift passage of this legislation.

“On behalf of our 750,000 members nationwide, the USCCA supports the passage of constitutional carry in this state legislative session.  This legislation would allow more responsibly armed Floridians to exercise their Second Amendment right, and would make Florida the 26th state to pass a constitutional carry law.  Law-abiding Americans should not have to ask the government’s permission, or face additional fees or red tape, in order to exercise a constitutional right,”  USCCA Chairman & Co-Founder Tim Schmidt said.

The Florida Legislature is moving quickly to enshrine constitutional carry into law during the 2023 legislative session, recognizing that responsible gun owners should be empowered to act as their own first line of defense.

“As for the idea that this law would create a ‘cowboy’ society of unsafe gun owners, that is simply not true.  We have seen record demand in Florida over the last several years for our firearm education and training classes.  Responsible gun owners know education and training is fundamental to their ability to protect.  They don’t need a government mandate to force them to do that – they’re already doing it because they know that exercising a right does not eliminate personal responsibility,” concluded Schmidt.
