If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably been keeping a close eye on the onslaught of new product releases that inevitably come this time of year. It certainly is a fun and exciting time of year for the gun industry and firearm enthusiasts. The popularity and demand for firearms designed for home and self-defense continue to grow, driving innovation and shaping the new wave of available options.
While certainly not an end-all list, several have caught my attention recently. As manufacturers start rolling out their plans for the year ahead, these are the new guns coming in 2026 that I’m most interested in spending time with and learning more about.
Taurus: TX9 9mm
Taurus is expanding its TX line in 2026 with the addition of the new TX9 striker-fired 9mm handgun.
What I find most intriguing about this model is the utilization of the Taurus Modular System. This system allows you to use the gun’s serialized modular chassis and switch between full-size, compact or sub-compact frames. Having this level of flexibility is almost like having three guns in one.
Although equipped with iron sights and ready to run as quickly as you can open the case, the TX9 also features Taurus’ T.O.R.O. system, which allows you to affix a red dot before heading to the range.
Mossberg: 990 SPX Magpul Semi-Auto 12g

Adding another option to the defensive shotgun category is Mossberg’s new 990 SPX Magpul.
This semi-automatic 12-gauge is available with your choice of an 18.5-inch barrel or the shorter NFA-regulated 14.5-inch barrel. The larger-barreled version boasts a capacity of 7 + 1, while the shorter version offers a still-impressive 5 + 1.
This purpose-built shotgun features popular design elements such as an enlarged loading port for quick and easy reloads, an oversized safety, and a Magpul SPX handguard, complete with M-LOK slots ready to accept your favorite lights, lasers and other accessories. Additional features include a knurled charging handle and an enlarged bolt release, all designed for ease of use and to keep your eyes focused on potential nearby threats.
TriStar: APOC Pro 9mm
Whether you’re looking to bang away at steel targets or test out a new home-defense option, the new APOC Pro from TriStar will let you do both with money left over for more ammo. With the elimination of the previously required tax stamp, those considering purchasing a suppressor will be pleased to hear this model is equipped with a threaded barrel.
Additional features include an RMS optics-cut slide, an RMR adapter plate, a magwell adapter, and fiber-optic front and rear sights. For those looking to further accessorize the APOC Pro, there is a Picatinny rail with space to mount your favorite light or laser.
Benelli: M4 EXT 12g

New from Benelli is the M4 EXT 12-gauge shotgun. This gun is geared toward defensive use, as evidenced by its oversized bolt release, which is perfect when your fine motor skills may be lacking due to the stress and adrenaline dump of a defensive encounter.
The stock is collapsible, allowing for utmost maneuverability throughout hallways and tight quarters. Lastly, the M4 EXT features Benelli’s long-trusted ARGO gas system, ensuring the gun runs clean and reliably when it matters most.
Smith & Wesson: M&P 2.0 Carry Comp 10mm
While 10mm may not be everyone’s go-to option for their carry gun, there has been a growing demand for handguns and PCCs chambered in this caliber over recent years. After catching a very curious black bear on our trail cameras recently, 10mm has become my round of choice to accompany me while hiking or working in the woods.
Ideal for home defense, personal protection or even for certain hunting applications, this new addition to the Carry Comp series is sure to be a hit. Power Ports help direct gas upward after each shot, thus reducing felt recoil and allowing the shooter to quickly get back on target.
Equipped for defensive measures, users will appreciate the Ameriglo Trooper front sight, with the serrated rear sight being blacked out. Prominent serrations along both the front and rear of the slide assist manipulation, especially helpful if your palms are sweaty or you are wearing gloves.
Mossberg: 590RM Chisel 12g

Fresh from Mossberg is the new 590RM Chisel, further expanding their defensive shotgun lineup. The two things that stand out most about this new release are that it is magazine-fed and that it comes equipped with a folding stock.
While there is a non-NFA version of this shotgun, I was drawn to the more compact NFA version. With a barrel length of 11.5 inches, it’s an excellent option for home defense or a potential option when folded to stash in your pack while on a backcountry adventure. The stock on the 590RM features eight levels of adjustment, along with a recoil pad and QD attachment points for a sling.
The list of features goes on and on, with the inclusion of a Picatinny rail for your preferred optics and accessories, Magpul MOE+ pistol grip, Accu-Choke System and more.
What to Expect From New Firearm Releases in 2026
Looking across these early releases, a few clear themes are starting to emerge for 2026. Manufacturers continue to refine striker-fired pistols, while shotguns are getting more attention as practical tools rather than novelty items. There’s also a noticeable focus on features that improve real-world usability
This is just an early look at some of the new guns coming in 2026. As the year unfolds, there will no doubt be more announcements, refinements and surprises, and not every new release will live up to the hype. What matters most is how these firearms perform once they’re in the hands of real shooters, and that’s where the real story always begins.
