Stone Strike: Virginia Homeowner Shoots Man Who Assaulted Him With a Rock
A stranger approached an Oakton man as he was working on his car at his home. An altercation occurred, and the stranger struck the homeowner on the head and shoulder with a rock. The assailant followed when the homeowner went inside the home to retrieve a firearm. The homeowner ended up fatally shooting the intruder. Investigators have not disclosed a motive or reason for the attack but have said the homeowner fired in self-defense.

Texas Citizen Fights Off Armed Attacker
A Gonzalez man was in a Walmart parking lot when an acquaintance pulled a gun on him and said he was going to kill him. The threatened man drew his own pistol, fired on his assailant and put him to flight. Responding police later arrested the assailant when he sought medical treatment for a gunshot wound. No charges were filed against the defending victim at press time.

Louisiana Man Defends Girlfriend Against Ex’s Attack
A couple were leaving their apartment when the woman’s ex-boyfriend emerged from some bushes and charged them. The woman’s boyfriend drew a gun and shot the ex-boyfriend in the hand, driving him away. The police later arrested the attacker when he sought medical treatment for a gunshot wound to the hand.

Mississippi Homeowner Holds Home Invader for Police
A Lee County man heard someone kicking in his front door at around 2 a.m. As he retrieved a gun from beneath his bed, he heard someone in his bedroom hallway. He ordered the intruder to leave. When the home invader refused, the homeowner fired two shots through the bedroom door. The homeowner then held the intruder at gunpoint until police arrived.

Alabama Homeowner Defends Against Armed Intruder
Two intruders, one armed, forced their way into a Poplar Springs residence. The armed intruder pistol-whipped one of the occupants. The other resident got to his gun and fatally shot the armed intruder, which caused the second invader to flee. Police later arrested the second suspect. The homeowner was not charged in the self-defense shooting.

A Piedmont woman was riding in a car with a man when he began to verbally and physically assault her. When she saw him reaching for a gun as he threatened her, she drew her own firearm and shot him.

Tennessee Man Fires at Naked Burglar
A naked man invaded a Knoxville residence one day, rummaging through drawers and other parts of the house and vandalizing property. The homeowner found the man inside when he entered his residence and ordered him out. After also ordering his wife to flee the home, the owner took up a pistol and confronted the naked intruder. Rather than comply with commands to leave, the intruder continued to vandalize property, taking up a windshield wiper he tore off of the resident’s vehicle and advancing on the homeowner. The intruder disregarded several orders to lay down on the ground, and the homeowner shot him once in the chest, critically injuring him and ending the incident.

Illinois Man Shoots Two Carjackers
A man was walking toward his car at around 3:30 a.m. in downtown Chicago when someone in a red sport utility vehicle fired shots at him. The car owner returned fire, wounding two men in the attacker’s vehicle as the group fled the scene. Police arrested the two suspects when they sought treatment for their gunshot wounds. A third suspect fled the scene on foot.

Michigan Man Stops Armed Robbery
A Detroit man met a stranger for a private car sale when the would-be buyer ambushed the seller. The seller was legally carrying and used his pistol to shoot his attacker, killing him. Detroit police said the shooting appeared to be in self-defense.

Wisconsin Septuagenarian Shoots Knife-Wielding Robber
A 79-year-old Elderon man was assaulted and stabbed in his garage by a young man trying to rob him. Fortunately, the victim was armed and was able to draw his gun and fire a single shot at his assailant before the robber wrestled the gun away from him. The shot fatally wounded the robber, who died while trying to run from the scene.

Virginia Homeowner Kills Home Invader
A Grayson County man was confronted by a stranger who broke into his bedroom through a window. The homeowner went for a handgun he kept in the room and, in the struggle for the gun that ensued, the homeowner shot the stranger twice, killing him. Police say the shooting looks to be self-defense.

Missouri Teen Defends Mother Against Domestic Assault
A teenage male in Green County saw his mother being strangled by a romantic partner. When the strangler refused the young man’s pleas to stop strangling his mother and instead told him, “You’re next, boy!,” the teen took up a shotgun and shot the assailant, wounding him in the head and ending the attack. Police praised the young man’s bravery.
