When you walk into a room, make sure you know how to get out of that room. Situational awareness is the key to safety. Always be aware of your surroundings. Look for “exit” signs. Notice areas of cover and concealment. Think about what you might do if things go wrong and you need to protect yourself or your loved ones. If possible, guide them to safety. But you can only do that if you have located exits, safe zones, and areas of cover or concealment.
Live in Condition Yellow
White. Yellow. Orange. Red. Condition White means you are not aware of what’s going on around you. Condition Red means you are involved in a conflict and taking action. The ideal condition for maintaining personal safety is Condition Yellow: aware of your surroundings and noticing what’s going on.
