It was probably a decade ago that I purchased my first pair of “tactical” boots that I designated just for training on the range. Just about everybody else in my circle had them, so I suppose they came with unspoken recommendation. I did get a lot of good use out of those boots. Unfortunately, they eventually wore out, and I never got around to replacing them.

Until now….

Having worn and used the women’s black Zephyr MK2 GTX from LOWA Boots, I’m kind of kicking myself (while wearing these boots!) for not adding them to my closet a lot sooner.

Comfort

For one, while I do get to do some firearms training myself, I am often the one on the instructor side, which means very long days of standing and walking. In fact, I typically rack up 6,000 to 8,000 miles, just going back-and-forth or up-and-down on the range when I’m teaching a class. So, the right support, flexibility and cushioning in a boot are musts. What’s amazing about these boots, however, is even though they are very sturdy and durable, they are not heavy! And while they look tough and rugged (and quite tacti-cool), they keep from adding extra weight to your feet, so you don’t have that exhausted, energy-drained, shuffling-around feeling at the end of a long training day.

Durability

Another reason that I absolutely love these boots is due to the fact that we’ve experienced a lot of rain in Alabama. And wouldn’t you know that the worst of the weather happened to be during our three-day instructor course? With my previous pair of boots, I ended up with soggy feet most days. And that’s just unacceptable! Luckily, insulated against heat and cold with GORE-TEX lining, these rain- and water-resistant boots keep your feet snug, dry and comfortable, even in not-so-great training weather.  Additionally, the slip-resistant sole provides optimal protection on any wet or slick surfaces.

Support

Another reason I am loving these boots is because of a recent ankle injury. I tore several ligaments a few months ago, and I have been struggling with swelling, along with some pain and tenderness, ever since. These boots provide just enough support that it’s not tight or constricting on my ankle, but I feel more confident that I won’t step wrong and re-injure myself.

Versatility

And while the Zephyr MK2 GTX might be tactical boots, designed for those of us who need to pound the gravel, dirt, grass or pavement, depending on what your range looks like, these boots are also a perfect addition to your hiking regimen. I may not be an avid outdoorswoman (thanks, mostly, to biting bugs), but I am absolutely thrilled to bring this kind of lightweight, water-resistant, durable and comfortable footwear on my next adventure with my family.

I highly recommend checking out LOWA’s new Zephyr MK2 GTX boots in the available colors and sizes so you can add them to your closet. Don’t wait like I did! Your feet will thank you.
